Spark #26—The Ultimate Summer Experience
Bonjour! My name is Quinn. I am a 16-year-old high school student heading into Grade 12. This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to spend five weeks in Québec City through Explore, a Government of Canada-funded language immersion program. Explore gives students the chance to strengthen their French while experiencing Francophone culture through fun activities, classwork and collaboration with other students.
I stayed in a dorm at Université Laval, which gave me my first experience living independently on a university campus. Before the program began, I completed a placement test that assigned me to the level of French that corresponded to my skills. Each morning, I attended French language classes that helped improve these skills and my confidence speaking French. Outside the classroom, I was fully immersed in French-Canadian culture through exploring Québec City, visiting Montréal, and experiences like whale watching, rafting, visiting L`Île d’Orléans, and many more!
I also met students from across Canada and around the world. I made friendships that I am so grateful for. The Explore program gave me a taste of university life, greater independence, new experiences, amazing friendships, and memories I will carry with me for years. Thank you Explore!
