DANCING BECAUSE IT'S FLINT’S 5TH BIRTHDAY! 🐾🎉

Flint might sound like something that makes sparks fly, but around here, Flint is our four-legged robotic friend who’s pretty good at stealing hearts... and maybe a shoe, tennis ball or snack too 🫣.

As Spark’s official education ambassador, Flint helps make tech learning fun, hands-on and a little more exciting.

And today, our favourite robo-pup is officially FIVE! 🥹

Here’s to five years of curiosity, adventures, personality and plenty of puppy-powered fun.

Drop a 🐶 below to wish Flint a very happy birthday!

Ever wonder what’s hanging out at the centre of the Milky Way? 👀

Oh, just a SUPERMASSIVE black hole called Sagittarius A*. 🌌

In Blackfoot stories, the Milky Way is named Makoiyohsokoyi, which translates as "the Wolf Trail". From Calgary, in the Northern Hemisphere, you can see the centre of the galaxy in the Southern sky during the summer.

Within this part of Wolf Trail, you can find the Wolf's Eye; the blackhole!

The story of Makoiyohsokoyi teaches us about humility, reciprocity, and how to work together as a community to survive. Indigenous knowledges across Turtle Island have always known of this location and its significance, they just had a different name and story to explain it.

Humans from across Turtle Island have always learned from the Milky way, even creating sacred mounds and stone circles on the Land to reflect its movement and the science within those sky-land connections.

Come learn about serpent mounds, the milky way, and more from Jim Rock, Dakota Astronomer, and Wilfred Buck, the Cree "Star Guy." at Indigenous Science Night on October 16th.

HAPPY PRIDE, CALGARY! Here’s to curiosity, community and colour 🏳️‍🌈.

Pride is about visibility, belonging, joy and standing together. What began as protest continues as a powerful celebration of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, uplifting q***r voices, challenging hate and creating space for people to live openly, authentically and proudly.

At TELUS Spark, we believe SCIENCE IS FOR EVERYONE 🥼.

Curiosity knows no boundaries, and belonging shouldn’t either. We’re proud to celebrate the incredible diversity of our staff, guests and supporters who lead with kindness, champion inclusion and help create a community where everyone can feel safe, welcome and free to be themselves.

Keep an eye out for the Spark crew in the Calgary Pride Parade! 🌈

THIS IS NOT A DRILL: THE ALBERTOSAURUS HAS A NAME 🦖🚨

After nearly 10 years of standing 30 feet tall outside in the Brainasium without a proper introduction, our beloved Albertosaurus finally has one.

Meet RUSTY! ⚙️

Calgarians came through with an incredible 1,200 name submissions, from clever and creative to wonderfully weird. After plenty of dino deliberation, Spark’s Dino Naming Council landed on the one that felt just right.

And the story gets even sweeter: Rusty was submitted by four-year-old Milan through one of the colouring sheets. The name felt like the perfect fit, playful, memorable and inspired by the sculpture’s rusty brown colour. It also gives us a fun way to get curious about things like why metal rusts, how materials change outdoors, and the engineering and recycled materials behind the sculpture.

Several people suggested the name Rusty, and Milan was randomly selected as the prize winner.

A big thank you to CF Chinook Centre and the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology for contributing prizes and helping us celebrate Rusty’s newest chapter.

Drop a 🦖 in the comments to officially say hello!
