A little late on this post, but these accomplishments definitely deserve some recognition!
Two weeks ago today, Chase Hews and Jordan Altura successfully passed their Alberta B-Pressure welding tickets. 👏
What makes their accomplishment even more impressive is that there were 8 welders testing that day — 2 union and 6 non-union — and Chase and Jordan were the only two welders to pass.
Fast-forward to today, and another graduate, Keagan Hansvall, stepped up to take his Alberta B-Pressure test. Out of 7 welders testing, Keagan was the only union member — and the only welder to successfully pass the test! 💪🔥
All three are graduates of our UTIP Canadian Pressure Welder Program, where they developed and sharpened the skills needed to take on this challenging test using GTAW for the root and SMAW 7018 for the fill and cap.
Results like these demonstrate the value of union training. It isn’t just about preparing someone to pass a test — it’s about providing welders with quality instruction, hands-on practice, experienced mentorship, and access to training facilities where they can continue developing their skills.
When 3 union-trained welders step into two testing sessions with 15 total candidates — and all 3 union welders walk away with their Alberta B-Pressure tickets — that speaks volumes about the training and preparation behind them.
Congratulations Chase, Jordan and Keagan! You put in the hood time, earned these tickets, and represented union-trained welders extremely well.
Another great example of what happens when opportunity, quality training and hard work come together.

Congratulations to Brother Matt Wi***es, a proud graduate of our Canadian Pressure Welding UTIP Program, on achieving his Journeyman Welder Certification!

Not one to slow down, Matt immediately stepped up to challenge his B-Pressure welding test, demonstrating the determination, work ethic, and commitment to excellence that define a true Boilermaker.

Matt’s journey is proof that success isn’t achieved by chance—it’s earned through hard work, continuous learning, and the drive to keep pushing yourself to the next level.

We’re incredibly proud of your accomplishments, Brother Matt, and look forward to seeing what you achieve next. Congratulations on this well-deserved milestone!

🔥 Congratulations to Youngchan Yoo! 🔥

A huge congratulations to Youngchan Yoo, a former Edmonton UTIP Filling the Gap C-Pressure graduate, who made the trip down to Calgary to sharpen his skills and has now become our newest ABSA B-Pressure Welder! 👏👨‍🏭

We’re incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication, and determination Youngchan has shown in reaching this milestone. Achieving a B-Pressure ticket is no small feat, and it speaks volumes about his commitment to the trade.

Now, we can’t help but point out that Youngchan had to come all the way to Calgary to get that final bit of preparation before passing his B-Pressure test. 😄 We might have to give our Edmonton brothers, Aaron and Jared, a little friendly grief about that!

In all seriousness, Aaron and Jared have done an outstanding job helping develop skilled welders through the Edmonton UTIP program, and Youngchan’s success is a reflection of the strong foundation they helped build. We were happy to help with the final step of the journey.

Congratulations again, Youngchan! Your future in the trade is bright, and we look forward to seeing what you accomplish next.

Sparks were flying this weekend as Calgary Boilermakers Lodge 146 proudly hosted the 11th Annual Calgary and Surrounding Areas High School Weld Rodeo! 🔥

Eight schools went head-to-head, each bringing a team of four students, all embracing this year’s creative theme: *Welder of Oz*, inspired by *Wicked*. The talent and imagination on display were outstanding.

Teams were challenged to follow a detailed blueprint to fabricate Dorothy’s farmhouse—fitting, welding, and leak testing their builds by filling them with water. Judging focused on weld size, appearance, and overall fabrication quality. On top of that, students dug through scrap piles to create sculptures inspired by the movie, with some teams even incorporating moving parts—impressive craftsmanship and creativity all around.

To test individual skill, one welder from each team completed a mock CWB 1GF plate, which was then put through a destructive bend test.

The level of detail, effort, and pride in workmanship was evident in every project. These students are a strong representation of the future of the trades.

A huge thank you to all the participants, the dedicated teachers who put in countless hours preparing their teams, the many sponsors for their generous support, and the parents who came out to cheer them on.

And a special thank you to the Boilermakers staff and members who volunteered their Saturday to make this incredible event possible.
