Learning all about me!

As children place the eyes, nose, mouth, and other features onto a face outline, they are developing important skills through play. This activity supports body awareness, facial-feature recognition, fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, and spatial thinking. It also encourages children to build vocabulary, express their individuality, and develop a positive sense of self. 💛

We've watched a lot of first days from the other side of the door.

Here's the thing we've noticed, after years of doing this in Calgary: how smoothly it goes almost never comes down to the child. It comes down to the two weeks before.

So we made the countdown we actually give new families. Three things, and none of them happen on the day itself.

The sleep one matters most and gets skipped most. The thirty-second goodbye is the one parents fight us on — it feels cold, like leaving mid-sentence — and it's the one that works.

Then the part nobody warns you about: your child will probably cry, and will probably be fine in ten minutes, and you will be the one still upset about it at lunchtime. That's normal. Ask your centre to text you once they've settled. Any good one will.
