Happy new year to all our budo friends! We are ushering in the new and old with some Bo-jutsu katas from Kukinshinden ryo. A wooden stick is no doubt the oldest weapon that the human kind has been using throughout our evolution as as species. So Bo-jutsu truly gets us back into our roots! It's also an excellent way to train both the mind and the body. Wishing everyone a year filled with much happiness and good health✨💫✨

Today we worked on good biomechanics from the ground up. A bit tough on the knees but good for building up better posture, alignment, and getting the spine to generate more energy! All fundamental ninja stuff 😎

The summer holidays are coming to an end and more bodies are back on the mats. It's good to see everyone studying the proper biodynamics of distance, timing, and angles. Yesterday, we worked on using seigan no kamae as way of receiving attacks and escaping or striking back as needed. After this use of longer distance, we worked on receiving an attack through a compression of space by using hicho no kamae. Great training everyone!
Beautiful sword work and a demonstration. This is not the Bujinkan lineage but there is a good amount of overlap with our approach as well

Tonight in training we worked on wrist and joint lock fundamentals, including using muso dori as a way of entering into jikoku dori. A few kicks mixed in helped to keep us on our toes. All through out, both minds and muscles got engaged and challenged. Good times for all ✨✨✨

Today started with Junan-taiso (a form of yoga as it exists in the Japanese tradition) under a beautiful sycamore tree, this particular one located in Lafaytte Indiana. Working on a good body foundation will always make your Taijutsu better, and can be done anywhere including while travelling. Learning to know your body and how to improve it based on where you are at is an important skill to cultivate. This form of awareness builds up the very foundation of self-defence

Last night we worked on fundamentals (kihon happo) and on a gyokko ryo kata Dan-shu (‘catapult hand’). Good training all around with a great group of people!
