Meet Qiushan (Lillian), a member of the Master of Public Policy cohort at The School of Public Policy. She holds a BCom in Management Information Systems from the University of Alberta and MA in Economics from the University of Victoria. Her professional experience includes working as a policy intern in the Ministry of Indigenous Relations, an intern at the Workers'Compensation Board and as an campaign assistant with United Way.
Qiushan’s capstone project investigates the impact of energy efficiency policies on the utility system in response to the increasing electricity demand. The study adopts a comparative approach, analyzing methods used in regions such as California, New England, and Ontario to evaluate the effectiveness of energy efficiency policies in mitigating the rising demand for electricity.

Meet Brayden, a member of the Master of Public Policy cohort at The School of Public Policy. He holds a BA in Honours Political Science from the University of Calgary and is working as a policy analyst for the Government of Alberta. Brayden also has several years of experience working as a farmer. His capstone examines the procurement process behind acquiring military assets for the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence.

Meet Maria, a member of the Master of Public Policy cohort at The School of Public Policy. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Calgary and is a registered nurse working for Amazon. Maria’s professional experience also includes working as a registered nurse for the City of Calgary and University of Calgary. Maria hopes to create policies that help people live longer and healthier lives,
both physically and mentally.

Meet Anita, a member of the 2022/2023 Master of Public Policy cohort at The School of Public Policy. She holds both a BSc in Biological Sciences and BSc inPharmacy from the University of Alberta. Anita is a practicing pharmacist and Owner at the Sunset Ridge Pharmacy. She balanced working part-time at the pharmacy alongside completing her MPP coursework and capstone.

Meet Elaine, a member of the 2022/2023 Master of Public Policy cohort at The School of Public Policy. She holds a BSocSc in Sociology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Elaine’s professional experience includes working as an intern for UNICEF Hong Kong, a Research Assistant at the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, and an analyst at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong (Loan Syndication and Financing).

Meet Alexia, a member of the 2022/2023 Master of Public Policy cohort at The School of Public Policy. She holds a BA in Honours Economics from the University of Calgary along with a Diploma of Natural Nutrition from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Alexia’s professional experience includes working as a Transformation Analyst with CEDA International and Regulatory Analyst with TC Energy.
In her capstone, she proposes a subscription model, in the form a two- part tariff, to induce firms to develop and sell novel antibiotics in Canada. Learn more about her capstone & decision to pursue the MPP.
