I wrote this yesterday at the Paris airport before flying to YYC...

My Empty Nest Life is all about discovering new countries because I take my business wherever I go.

What I did not expect to feel in France was this much excitement to get back to Alberta🇨🇦, my home.

I wonder what my 20 year younger self, pregnant with my son, would say if I could go back and tell her, "When your baby grows up you'll be running your own online business while exploring Spain, France and many more countries." ?

There have been ups and downs on this trip. Self discovery. Although Barcelona and Paris were cool to see, I'm a small town girl. Big cities drain my energy and make me wish I could drive my 4Runner down a bumpy dirt road deep into a forest to sit by a campfire and hear only the crackling 🔥.

Being in small towns where I am steps from a forest or quiet beach are where I feel most alive and grateful for my ability to travel. When I felt trapped in a big city, my work saved me. Strategizing with clients, creating reels and websites, or touching base with the women currently in my marketing school - THAT'S WHAT KEPT ME SANE AND HAPPY.

🌴  Have you ever been on vacation and felt like there has to be more to "travel" than food, drink, beach + sight seeing?

After a week in Barcelona I had the good fortune to go to Île d'Yeu in the south of France. It is an incredible island with a calm vibe. I was usually the only person on the beach. There are many beaches so you can hop on your bike and go to the next beach until you find one where you are alone.

Then on to Paris where I quickly discovered that the crowded city was not for me. I booked a small cottage airbnb on an acreage in Presles, an hour north of Paris close to a new friend I made on the island. She took me shopping, for forest walks and to yummy restaurants. Driving through the countryside to visit her family and experiencing a small town Medieval festival with my airbnb host were things I never could have done in Paris.

I can't wait for my next adventure, to be the "foreign girl" to more new friends, and to once again be at the airport feeling excited to get back home 🇨🇦.

Today was not the first time I made money while laying on a beach. However it was the first time I did it in France. Also my first time buying shellfish from a vending machine.

A little bit about Lyndsie...

Since 2019 I've been helping women entrepreneurs clearly communicate their value using the power of social media and website design. Many of the women I've helped have trusted me to guide them through introducing their brand new business to the world. My expertise includes packaging and pricing offers, creating proposals, setting up payment processing and lead magnet systems. I've also written six books for women entrepreneurs.

Here's Vera's story...

Hi! I'm Vera. My entrepreneurship journey began when I was let go from corporate job. I decided to start my own business, which I thought meant taking many courses. I didn't focus on getting clients because I worried i couldnt help them enough. Classic imposter syndrome!

I found another job to pay my bills while I continued to grow my business on the side. Perhaps this is the stage you are at right now...

In 2023 with zero business income, I said bye bye to my corporate job. The decision was scary, but once I gave my notice I felt excited, optimistic, and ready to take on the world.

On the first day, I felt elated. Nobody was telling me what to do, when to do it, what to write about, when to eat lunch - it was glorious. As day one ticked by, the reality dawned on me. I had no training on how to run a business. No policy manual. No guidebook. Nobody to report to. And most alarming, no clients.

I literally thought that I would plug in the OPEN sign (post on LinkedIn) and have a line up of clients eagerly waiting to sign up with me.

It was a rocky road at first, but then I invested in hiring Lyndsie to help me with social media marketing. Together we clarified my business vision. She pointed out my marketing sweet spots. Along the way we discovered that we make an excellent team!! 🙂
