The Mossbag project uses art, kinship, community, and love to develop a scholarship for young Indigenous mothers or two-spirit parents who are hoping to, or going to University. These folks are the caregivers and leaders we need and who need the most support. Please share this info with anyone you know who may benefit! https://www.themossbagproject.org/

Today is Orange shirt day. It reminds us of what was taken from Indigenous children when they were forced into residential schools.
Phyllis Webstad had on her orange shirt that her Grandmother gave her for her first day of school. When she got there her new shirt was taken and replaced with a drab school uniform. She was six years old.
Her story is indicative of thousands of children who had so much of what was special about them taken away... or at least they tried.
Canada was formed on this and many other acts of genocide.
Today we remember the resilience of the survivors of residential schools, many of them are still alive today and those that died far before their time.
Treaty 7 was made on this day in 1877. This agreement was meant to ensure good lives for Indigenous peoples and settlers alike but the Crown, and by extension Canada, has not lived up to it's side of the agreement.
And for those who have always honoured your side, for all you do to protect the lands and give us grace, for surviving genocide, for teaching, for upholding values.... $5
Let's do better.
