CONCERT ALERT ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30th, 2024 beginning at 6:30pm WHERE: Bert Church Theatre. Please bring non-perishable food items for the Airdrie Food Bank! This concert will feature our Drumline, Grade 9 Band, Large Jazz Ensemble, and our Senior Concert Band! We are dressing up, and the band has voted for me to be a “Woodland Fairy” this year…no bacon! We will also have a 50/50 raffle, a concession (everything is $2) and be selling any remaining WestJet Raffle Tickets ($20 each). Hope to see you there!

Final performance of the school year! I put-off my knee surgery until after this was done and then I found out last week that my surgery has been moved to a later date. 🤷 I am grateful for all of the students who could make it out to this tonight! The band is HUGE, and in fine form! Let the Jazz Begin!

On June 16th, I am putting on an event for my High School Jazz Ensemble (too big to be a big band), at The Polaris Theatre in Balzac, AB. Doors open at 7pm. This is a fundraiser for our program.

June 5th, 2024 at 6:30pm, this group of incredible musicians will be playing their last concert together and it has been my honour to be able to watch them grow this year. Everyone is welcome…please bring non-perishable food items for the Airdrie Food Bank. The night will begin with our Drumline, followed by our Jazz Ensemble and capped off with our “AWARD-WINNING” Senior Concert Band! Come celebrate their music and say farewell to an amazing group of seniors.

We got us a BIG BAND CONCERT TONIGHT at the Bert Church Theatre! 6:30pm start. Tonight will feature the Grade 9’s (with guests), 50-member-Jazz Ensemble?!?, and our great big Senior Band! This concert will be considerably shorter than our Christmas Concert and we are again hosting a 50/50 as well as collecting donations for the Airdrie Food Bank!

This Wednesday, December 13, 2023 the BCHS Music Department will be hosting our Christmas Concert in the Bert Church Theatre. Show begins at 6:30pm and will feature student performances from General Music, Jazz Ensemble, Drumline, Grade 9 Band and Senior Concert Band…as well as many features of solos, duets, and other various combos. It’s a big celebration and we will also be having a Silent Auction and a Raffle to raise funds for the students in the program. Admission is free, but, if possible, I ask that you please bring a non perishable item for our Airdrie Food Bank. See you Wednesday night!

Friends and folks in and around Airdrie, if you are looking for something to do Wednesday, June 7 at 6:30pm, I encourage you to come to the Bert Church Theatre to enjoy the Senior Farewell Concert for our BCHS Music Program. Our Jazz Ensemble will be performing Mingus’ “Moanin’”, Mambonucleosis, Compared to What (of Les McCann and Wddie Harris fame), Birdland by Weather Report, and Tank! from Cowboy Bebop.

The Senior Concert Band is performing a ton of tunes: Cartoon Carnival by Bullock Meyer March by Zdechlik, Firescape by Marlatt, Unknown by Balmages, Brickhouse (she’s mighty mighty! Yeah, that one!), Pixar Movie Magic, Sheltering Sky by Mackey and Sogno di Volare by Christopher Tin.

There will also be a few Senior features sprinkled amongst the musical fray!

Today a former student texted me about their struggles, “its just good to know that my feelings arent wrong” please, for the holidays, and every minute after them, give people time who come to you and ask for it. WE ARE ALL STRUGGLING! Please don’t feel like you are struggling through your life alone, because I guarantee you that someone cares about you. Even if you don’t know them in your life right now, it could be a complete stranger who NEEDS to hear you and be there, for you. Never stop struggling, sometimes every day feels like a struggle, and then, some days don’t. I believe in you!♥️

Hey there Alumni! What were your favourite tunes to play in the Jazz Band when you attended Bert Church? Also, how many people kept original copies of the music and maybe still have them or know where they are? I spent 6 hours this evening going through the charts I haven’t used in my 6 years at the school and there are some great charts and lots of missing music. Haha! I hope you are all well…and I’d really love an actual alumni event someday.
