Teaching students to care for their environment in the Aspen Hill Montessori classroom focuses on fostering respect, responsibility, and connection to nature through hands-on, daily activities. Children learn stewardship by caring for plants, by maintaining their surroundings, and helping fellow students with challenging tasks. These activities build empathy and understanding of their impact on the world, and help AHM student in the graduate with a strong sense of place and duty of care to their fellow community.
Our 2026–2027 learning season programs are now interviewing for placement. Learn more through www.aspenhillmontessori.ca, or through the links in our bio. We’re excited to meet you and your child soon at one of our two premiere West Calgary campuses!

The tenacity and patience to progress through labelling the complete thousand count bead chain is significant. This Casa student at our Strathcona campus was just about complete when we took this photo, and she was so proud of herself for finishing this important work. It also meant that she counted to 1000 which in itself is a amazing feat! The capacity of a child to manage big and complex work in a Montessori classroom is often astounding to the casual observer, but we see this type of resilience and investment every day in our classrooms.☺️
Our programs for children ages eight months through 5.5 years are located in West Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We invite you to follow our account and learn more about our campuses and our students as we discover new experiences in the Montessori pedagogy together.

The sensorial materials within the Montessori pedagogy have unique qualities to help build a child’s mathematical mind. Their construction is scientifically precise across increasing amounts of width, length, and height, to allow the child to experience a natural control of error using their visual sense. The smooth construction and bright colors, make sensorial materials very attractive to children who are learning to compare and grade size, volume, length, and shape. This Casa student from our Strathcona campus is exploring the red, yellow and green boxes of the knobless cylinders.
Our West Calgary campuses are interviewing for the 2026–2027 learning season. Reach out to connect, and find out how Aspenhill Montessori’s approach to the Montessori methodology can make a difference for your child.

Our youngest Bambini students at our Strathcona campus are invested learners. Through introductory shelf work activities that focus on fine motor skills, they are growing in independence, confidence, and skill as they learn care for themselves and their environment.

Thank you to our parents and families for supporting our professional development days! Professional development days give educators an opportunity to connect as professionals, share ideas, tour each other’s classrooms, and learn new strategies and techniques for working with young children. One of the themes of this professional day is learning how to let go :-) and move with the flow of children when needed. We are doing this through art explorations, talks, and presentations. One of Maria Montessori‘s most important tenants was to follow the child, and in learning how to let go of our adult expectations of children, we can be co-creators and co-learners with our students.
We look forward to seeing all of our students back to care on Wednesday.

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home as well as survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. At Aspen Hill Montessori, students and educators engaged with the history and enduring spirit and resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples through authentic art, culture and music experiences. By incorporating First Nations teachings from authentic resources and cultural leaders into our ongoing curriculum, we ensure that seeing and appreciating the original peoples of this land is an enduring practice for our students. Our students were excited with the support of Kyle and Nevada, our indigenous cultural visitors, to explore the significance of beading, creating a personal dance armband, and making friendship tokens to gift to each other in a spirit of connection.
