π First Day Jitters? You're Not Alone! π
Whether it's your little one's very first day or the start of a new school year, it's completely normal for both kids AND parents to feel a flutter of first-day anxiety. Here are a few tips to help make the transition smoother for everyone:
β¨ Get familiar before you arrive β Hop over to our Instagram and page and take a peek at photos of our classrooms and teachers! Putting a face to a name (and seeing the fun spaces waiting for them) can go a long way in easing those nerves.
β¨ Create a goodbye routine β and practice it β Decide how you'll say goodbye at the door (a special handshake, a hug and a wave, a silly phrase) and stick with it every single drop-off. Predictability is comforting! You can even practice your goodbye routine at home a few times before the big day.
β¨ Read books about starting school β Story time is a wonderful way to talk through big feelings. Some favourites:
π The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn
π Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney
π The Night Before Kindergarten by Natasha Wing
π First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg
π Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes
β¨ Keep goodbyes short and confident β Lingering can actually make it harder. A quick, loving goodbye reassures your child that this is a safe, normal part of the day.
β¨ Trust the process β Most tears dry up within minutes of drop-off! Our teachers are here to comfort, distract, and welcome your child with open arms.
π We know first days can bring big feelings for the whole family β we're here to support you every step of the way!
