First day of Niipo (summer) and National Indigenous People’s Day! 🪶
Beautiful hearts and spirits from community brought so much joy to our students and staff today. 💕
Ayyyy, 🤚🏽to 🧡 to , Julian, Shantell, Rhythm (amazing jingle dancer), & for making our day so special.
Indigenous pride, culture, knowledge systems and contributions are honoured all year long. Today reminds us our ceremonies keep us sacred all day long, that we are connected to the land, that the arts of movement and singing are healing, and that kindness and respect are needed for all our relations to gift and receive daily.

In kinship with the land acknowledgment all schools received new flags to demonstrate CBE’s Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, acknowledging First Nation, Inuit, and Métis peoples, as the original peoples of this country.
To honour our new flags, Niitsitapi students gathered with guest presenter to learn about traditional ways to acknowledge and prepare the land through a grass dance performance.
The bright fringe sways like the blowing grass in the wind, and the grass dancers role would be to prepare Na’a for the grand entry, when the flags of Nations would be carried in.

Appreciate the fields of naató’sipisátssaisski (dandelion ‘sun flowers’) this season, as they represent the skies. Every child connects with these flowers and every school yard allows for wonder, noticing, and play.
