Tracy Powell joined Tania Stilson on the latest episode of the podcast Disrupting Death, called “The Alberta Episode.” They discussed Alberta’s Bill 18, the Safeguards for Last Resort Termination of Life Act, and its implications for MAiD access and suffering. The episode also examines barriers that existed before the legislation and how the law affects patients, families, and healthcare providers throughout Alberta. Tracy Powell Awarded Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Insight Grant:
Alongside Dr. Janine Brown and Dr. Kathy Kortes-Miller, Dr. Tracy Powell is a co-investigator on a four-year, $358,000.00 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Insight Grant examining how social and political contexts shape end-of-life planning among older adults in Canada. The study, Understanding the Impact of Social-Political Contexts in Shaping Older Adult Canadians’ End-of-Life Planning, began recruitment in winter 2026.
