This Black History Month, we honour and celebrate the legacy, resilience, and leadership of Black midwives across Canada; past, present, and future.
Black midwives have played a vital role in shaping maternal and newborn care, advocating for community-centred, culturally safe, and compassionate practices, often in the face of systemic barriers. Their contributions continue to strengthen midwifery care and improve outcomes for families and communities across the country, including right here in Alberta.
Throughout February, we’ll be sharing a series of posts highlighting the history of Black midwifery in Canada, drawing attention to stories, milestones, and voices that deserve recognition, reflection, and celebration.
We invite our community to join us in learning, honouring, and uplifting these important contributions; not just this month, but always.
