Wee Wild Ones is an inquiry-based early childhood education centre

Founded in 2013 with a dream to bring children closer to nature, Wee Wild Ones is a group of daycare centres that uses a child guided, inquiry-based approach, inspired by the Reggio Emilia style of learning. Our childcare and early childhood education programs promote exploration and learning through play, nature, and movement. At our centres and beyond, we support and uplift our community, champion diversity and inclusivity, and actively work towards greater environmental stewardship.

Little feet, big milestones πŸ‘ŸπŸ…
This year’s Wee Wild Ones Diaper Dash at the was one to remember! The determination of all our little racers was clear as they made their way across the track, as was the pride their families felt cheering them on. Special thank you to for capturing the magic of the event in this beautiful video.
We can’t wait to do it all again next year! 🀩

When play meets exploration, magical things can happen 🌹πŸ§ͺ

The children at our Currie centre participated in an outdoor water-based provocation, using natural materials to explore with colours and quantities. This hands-on experience let them experiment with math concepts such as volume, estimation, and capacity. They imagined possibilities and tested their own theories relating to cause and effect, and continuously reinvented their play!

Did you see any of our Wee Wild Ones team at the Calgary Marathon this year? πŸ‘ŸπŸ…

We were proud to have many of our team volunteering at the Diaper Dash and Kids Race, as well as participating in their own events! We love connecting with our community and encouraging quality family time enjoying the outdoors - and the marathon is the perfect opportunity for both.

Thank you to everyone who came out this year, your support means the world to us! 😊

Why is outdoor exploration so important for our little learners? 🌿πŸͺΊπŸŒ·β›…️

Wee Wild Ones embraces a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach, treating the environment as an important teacher for children that influences what and how they learn. For example, our Bridgeland centre recently gave these kids the opportunity to explore one of our city's green spaces and its many offerings. From the water to the grass and everywhere in-between, they connected with the nature around them, learning what makes these places special. We talk about respecting the environment - setting the foundation for these children to lead active lives embracing the outdoors and sustainable practices.

We're teaching our kids a love for nature - and all the things big and small that are part of it! πŸͺ±πŸ¦‹πŸ•·οΈπŸͺ²

These Bridgeland toddlers loved this bug hunt sensory bin activity, demonstrating their cooperative skills as they took turns to find the different bugs hiding in it. We practiced identifying the little crawlers by size and colour, as well as the other natural elements like rocks, wood, and grass.

We are taking full advantage of these warm spring days to explore our city's parks! 🌳🌞

These Currie kids had a great time recently soaking up the sun and frolicking in our community's green space. Enhancing their gross motor skills through active outdoor play, the children traversed the slopes and cheered each other on as they built up their stamina. We are forever grateful for these accessible spaces in Calgary as a hands-on learning environment!

These cuties in our childcare program at WWO Bridgeland are learning about our Summer Splash theme! 🌞🌊

In this sensory painting activity, they sharpened their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while exploring with bright colours and summer-themed shapes. We love seeing their creativity shine through, as they express themselves through art!

Happy Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Day tomorrow! This day recognizes the vital role our educators play in a child's development. To show our thanks, our centres are being treated with pizza lunch today! We are incredibly grateful for your dedication in helping our little ones grow. πŸ•πŸ˜Š

Bow Valley College also recently treated our centres to pizza lunches, and we truly appreciate their generosity. We are proud to partner with the college to provide their ECE students with internship opportunities in our centres. This gives them hands-on experience in their future field, and our team loves being able to pass along practical advice and knowledge!
