We all know one!!
How ‘pretendians’ undermine the rights of Indigenous people
We must guard against harmful public discourse about Native identity as much as we guard against harmful policy.

My heart and mind is always open to constructive criticism. We need to see past our fragile egos to what others are saying... There is meaning in what others think or say about is. Otherwise we continue to hear the messages, in non positive ways.

Fear the rapid push for Indigenous hires is leading to missteps - concerns that those with no connection to an Indigenous community will take spots reserved for those who do.
"These positions should go to people who are connected to their communities, people who are claimed by their communities and people who are serving their communities so that these positions can do the work to indigenize," she said.
Sharon Hobenshield, director of Aboriginal education and engagement at VIU which has a main campus in Nanaimo, says the hiring process goes far beyond a person's resumé.
"[We would ask], where and who are the elders who have taught them, can they name the people who have influenced their lives?" she said,
Hobenshield also says she understands the complexity of modern Indigenous identify and experiences that have been influenced by residential school and the Sixties Scoop.
My thoughts are that this should be considered for any Indigenous people working in the Indigenous spaces, corporate, consulting, private, public, or government! And in a earned and traditional way, not with Google searches, academic reading, and personal interpretation.

"This isn’t the politics of magical thinking. Consultation is the politics of concrete solutions – solutions that ensure that our peoples are never again asked to sacrifice our livelihoods and health so that non-Natives can reap a benefit."
It’s time to take consultations with First Nations seriously
Throughout its entire history, the Federal government has failed to treat First Nations people as equal citizens, and has failed to protect the interests of First Nations communities and economies

I've known Marlene for a very long time. She was always so friendly with me, and loved to joke. Even in all her monthly Metis mixers, speeches, didn't matter...you could always count on a laugh or chuckle.
My sincerest condolences go out to her family, her many friends, and to the Metis communities across Canada. May her memory, legacy, and humour live on.

Today was a day I will not forget. A bench carved out of stone from the land of the Tsuu T'ina Nation, by Dale Kastelen was unveiled at the Grey Eagle Hotel.
Family, friends, warrior women and men, media, dignataries and more came to honor my sister who is on the MMIW list.
We want to thank Lee Crowchild and Tsuu T'ina Nation for honoring her, and "catching our tears", and being the first nation to commit to erecting a park dedicated to all MMIWG.
We want to thank the National Inquiry Into Missing and Murdered Women in Canada for their support in our aftercare, and for attending. Also, FSIN Chiefs, elders Ruby Eagle Child Lloyd Ewenin Sr. and Alvin Manitopyes for their blessings and prayers.
To the Wolfpack drum group/singers Sundance Ewenin, and Curt Young for their songs, and healing. To Stephanie Evans for dancing the healing dances for our family. To nepinak of Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society for helping with our printing, and her never ending advocacy for Indigenous women.
To Autumn Leona EagleSpeaker for MC'ing our event in her usual eloquant way, and the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino for providing a temporary home for Laney's bench until it is moved to the MMIW Memorial Park that will soon be the first of it's kind on Indigenous land on Tsuu T'ina Nation.
All our family, near and far who came, and to my sister Danielle Ewenin for her fierce spirit and never ending love...my hero
