Happy Canada Day! Hope that celebration and community found you yesterday as so many of us gathered to enjoy music, performance, and stilt magic. Thank you to audiences all along the River Walk between Eau Claire Plaza and George C Bridge. We found you or you found us, either way we’re happy to have spent time together on this amazing day.
Shout out to and for producing and hosting this wonderful event. We’re very grateful to have been a part of it. We had a great time at Sien Lok Park. Thanks for making sure the newly re-energized park was on our walkabout itinerary.
Special thanks to our intrepid rovers at Three Left Feet. 6.5hours of stilt walking over 6km and y’all are still smiling. Y’all rock! ❤️💪🇨🇦

Congratulations Alberta Playwrights' Network on your next chapter. Louise Casemore is such a thoughtful and inspired choice for leadership

NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ALBERTA PLAYWRIGHTS’ NETWORK - LOUISE CASEMORE

After an exhaustive search, the board of Alberta Playwrights’ Network is delighted to announce the appointment of Louise Casemore as our new Executive Director. Since mid-March, she has been working with outgoing ED Trevor Rueger, transitioning into the position.

“On behalf of the APN board, it's my privilege to announce that Louise Casemore is our new Executive Director. Louise is based in Edmonton and comes to us with a wealth of experience and passion for the arts. She is an award-winning playwright, dramaturg, and arts leader with a dedicated interest in new play development, community building, and sector transformation. We are very excited to work with Louise and want to welcome her to the Alberta Playwright's Network team.”
- Tereasa Maillie
President, APN

As an artist who has been living and creating in Alberta my whole life, it’s an honour to be stepping into service as the new Executive Director for Alberta Playwrights’ Network. Playwrights are my people, and supporting the growth and creativity of artists in this region is my passion. Standing on the shoulders of the tremendous work carried out by Trevor for the past 19 years, I’m tremendously grateful to dive into this exciting next chapter for the organization."
- Louise Casemore, MFA (she/her)
Incoming Executive Director, Alberta Playwrights' Network

“Whenever you step away from something you’ve committed to for a long time, you are always trepidatious about what is going to happen next. When the board informed me that they had selected Louise as the next ED, all that trepidation disappeared. Louise will be an incredible asset to the creative community of Alberta. Her passion for the craft, her insight and intelligence, and her administrative brilliance are going to set APN up for the next 40 years. I couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter of APN under the leadership and guidance of Louise.”
- Trevor Rueger
Executive Director (Emeritus)

Welcome Aboard, Louise. We wish you nothing but the best!

Thanks for the photos Werklund Centre! Chinook Blast 2026 was definitely one for the books. Loved loved loved roving with our stilt projects while luminaries, like Wakefield Brewster, inspired us from afar. 💖🤩💖

What an incredible 4 weeks! From media launches thru to the last week of the festival, the fair weather definitely put the chinook in Chinook Blast. The crowds were very supportive of all the amazing installations, music, projections, performances, skating, and midwinter magic. From our stilting vantage point, we saw all kinds of positive community connections being made. Spectacle brings out the wonder in all of us. Let us all continue to hold tight to the transformative power of art and creativity. Thank you to the talented team who reprised both LED performance art projects: GLOWful Wanderings and Trails of Light.
Performers: Lavender Wong (.ty.wong), Allara Gooliaff (), Tara Blue (), and Mara Liao Esnard () — Three Left Feet doesn’t exist without your can-do effort, flexible mindset, and professional rigour. So damn grateful for you.
Costumes: Marcia Tofer () from Dream Dance Circus () in Grande Prairie — your imagination is unparalleled.
LED Glow for GLOWful Wanderings and Picnic Playground: Teigan Blondin de Boer ()— troubleshooting should be your middle name, but it turns out brilliance is your game. Thanks for being a sounding board and making all the costumes sparkle and shine.
Photos by Neil Zeller Photography () — Love composing shots with you but ultimately, the game is seen through your lens. Symmetry, reflection, and light. Boom!
Festival producer: Bird Creatives — Eau Claire Plaza was such a great venue for all the Chinook Blast activities. Thanks for coordinating all of our competing wild-nesses and helping us all pull in one direction. You are our community’s champions of placemaking.

Event supporters: Tourism Calgary, Calgary Economic Development, City of Calgary – Your Local Government, Calgary Arts Development — we glowwww for you. Thank you for letting us do what we do.
