Have you heard of the "Matthew Effect"?
"When your child dislikes reading, he doesn’t get enough practice. Without practice, he doesn’t develop automaticity, and reading becomes hard—which leads to even less practice. When reading is easy for a child, he usually likes to read – and because it’s easy for him, he reads more. As a result, he develops automaticity, reading becomes even more pleasant, and he has excellent vocabulary growth. The upward spiral continues."
Is the "Matthew Effect" Affecting Your Child’s Desire to Read?
Does your child avoid reading whenever possible? Find out how the Matthew Effect could be affecting your child's desire to read.

Is your child struggling with reading? The National Panel of Reading identifies these "fab 5" elements as core components for successful reading. Often, struggling readers use a huge amount of their cognitive resources to achieve fluency and speed, and have very little left over for successful comprehension. If comprehension is the problem, it's important that we make sure all the foundational skills are in place as well. In grade 3, children shift from learning to read, to reading to learn. The emphasis on comprehension grows as the child progresses through the school years, so it is crucial that children have strong foundational skills in place as soon as possible.
At Sound Connections, we believe it is never too late to start!
We look forward to helping your child reach their potential.

Nearly a third of children with ADHD also have a math learning disability. Their symptoms impact and complicate one another in ways educators and clinicians must take into account.
