Real Estate Student Association - RESA

Share

RESA was formed by students for students interested in careers related to real estate and land development.

Together with corporate sponsors and industry professionals, RESA hosts numerous events aimed at providing students with a platform beyond the classroom to engage the real estate community in Calgary. Our main ambition is to help bridge the gap between academia and the professional world by providing students with networking opportunities and exposing them to the many different career possibilities in real estate.

Hi, I’m Jay, a fourth-year Accounting major at the University of Calgary. My passion for real estate began during a summer position at a property management company, where I developed a deep interest in the industry. As the Vice President of Podcast for the Real Estate Student Association (RESA), I lead our efforts to create, record, and edit podcasts that provide students with an inside look into the real estate world.

Our podcasts feature interviews with experts across the industry—from recent graduates to CEOs—offering a wide range of perspectives and insights. We aim to give students a comprehensive understanding of what it’s like to work in real estate, as well as practical advice to help them navigate their career journeys. Whether you’re exploring property management, development, or investment, our podcasts are here to inspire and inform your path into this dynamic field.

Hi! I’m Saba Khalid, a third-year finance student at the University of Calgary and the Vice President of Events for RESA. My passion for real estate stems from watching my father navigate the industry with success and dedication, sparking my own dream of one day owning investments like hotels and villas. As VP of Events, I’m thrilled to create opportunities for students to connect with like-minded peers, gain insights into the real estate world, and build pathways to exciting careers.

Fun fact: I’ve had the amazing privilege of traveling to 25 countries, each experience shaping my global perspective and love for exploration! I can’t wait to bring that same energy and curiosity to our RESA events this year!

I’m in my final year of study in the General Business program. I have been the VP of Mentorship at RESA for 2 years, and it has been a gratifying experience. RESA hosts many great events for students interested in Real Estate, even if you aren’t a Real Estate major. Being part of RESA and attending RESA events has broadened my network, increased my skill set, and given me lots of great opportunities. It has expanded my knowledge of the Real Estate career potential which I am excited to leverage when I graduate.

As I reflect on my time with the Real Estate Students’ Association (RESA) over the past three years, I feel incredibly grateful for the journey and the opportunities it has provided me. Starting as Director of Marketing, moving on to Vice President of Marketing, and now serving as Co-President, my involvement with RESA has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my university experience.
-
Through RESA, I’ve had the privilege to participate in industry events like the Real Estate Forum and several mentoring events hosted by the club. These opportunities have allowed me to not only deepen my understanding of the real estate industry but also connect with inspiring professionals who are shaping its future.
-
Calgary’s unique charm lies in its combination of big-city opportunities with a close-knit community. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate how interconnected the real estate industry is here—everyone seems to know everyone, and those relationships are the foundation of success. Thanks to RESA and resources provided by the  Westman Centre, I’ve been able to build strong connections and gain invaluable insight into the field.
-
To students considering getting involved, I can’t stress enough the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone—attend events, ask questions, and meet as many people as you can. The real estate industry is incredibly dynamic, offering diverse career paths in areas such as finance, development, marketing, law, and more.
-
RESA has been instrumental in shaping my passion for real estate and helping me navigate my path in this exciting industry.
