Though this year’s graduating class may be small in number, the impact these students have had on our school community is immeasurable. Over the years, we’ve watched them grow in confidence, independence, resilience, and character — and it has been an honour to be part of their journey.

On Wednesday morning, we came together for our Training Wrap-Up event; a morning filled with reflection, connection, laughter, and a little competitive spirit 😊🔥
�We began with our “Ripple Reflection” activity, where staff reflected on the moments, growth, kindness, and impact that shaped this past year. It was a powerful reminder of how far the ripple effect of support, patience, and teamwork reaches within our school community 🌊✨
�The morning then shifted into our Staff Survivor challenges, where teams worked together through a series of fast-paced games that tested communication, creativity, memory, and teamwork 🎯🧠🤝

The room was filled with cheering, laughter, and encouragement as everyone embraced the challenges together 🎉👏
�While there was only one Survivor team at the end, the true highlight was seeing everyone come together. From meaningful reflection to shared laughter, the morning was a reminder that the strength of our work has always been rooted in the people around us 🌟

✨ Final Sibling Social of the Year ✨

Throughout the year, siblings came together in a space of shared lived experiences—being a brother or sister of an autistic child. It was a place where connections were built, laughter was constant, and everyone could simply be. From meaningful conversations to giggles, games, and play, these moments truly mattered.

This year included a variety of activities, including a movie night, clay for kids glass fused project, ice breaker games, guessing trivia and more. It was heart warming to see friendships grow and connections deepen with each gathering.

One sibling shared it best: “I love it here and meeting other siblings.” ❤

As we look ahead, planning is already underway for the 2026–2027 year, with new ideas in mind to ensure these socials continue to be a space where siblings can let go of the worries, feelings, and even guilt they may carry—and just enjoy being kids. Stay tuned for new experiences to come!

The countdown is on for Janus Academy’s 14th Annual Sports Day & Pledge-a-thon on June 11 at Calgary Rotary Challenger Park! Our students are already training, practicing, and getting excited for a day filled with teamwork, determination, school spirit, and fun. 🏃‍♂️💪 A special thank you to our instructors from Clubb Sport and the MOVE program by GoodLife Kids Foundation for working with our students and preparing them!

From running races and throwing events to cheering on teammates and celebrating personal bests, Sports Day is one of the most anticipated days of the year — and every student gets the chance to shine.

Our annual Pledge-a-thon is now officially underway! 🌟 Every donation helps support specialized programs, resources, and opportunities that empower children and youth with autism to learn, grow, and thrive.

🦒🐻 A Wildly Successful Day at the Zoo! 🐧🦓

Yesterday, our elementary students headed out for a school-wide adventure to the Calgary Zoo — and what an incredible day it was!

Students explored exhibits from around the world, starting in Africa where they spotted hippos, giraffes, zebras, lemurs, and gorillas. The adventure continued through Canadian Wilds with sightings of bears, wolves, bison, and polar bears. There was even time to enjoy the playground and soak up the beautiful spring weather together! ☀️

Beyond the animals and excitement, what made the day truly special was seeing our students engage with the experience in their own unique ways. Throughout the trip, students demonstrated awareness, curiosity, participation, and connection with the world around them. We were so proud to see students staying with their groups, showing interest in the exhibits, and exploring their environment with confidence and enthusiasm. 💙

Field trips like these create opportunities for learning, social connection, independence, and unforgettable memories — and yesterday was full of all of that and more!

🎯 Learning, laughter, and a little friendly competition — that’s how we do staff training at Janus! 🎯

For almost 10 years, Janus JEOPARDY! has been a fun and engaging part of our staff training experience. Created as fun way for new and returning staff to review our teaching philosophy, key concepts, and practices, it continues to be a favourite way to learn together as a team.

No fancy board game required — sometimes the best learning tools are the simplest ones: just some good old flashcards and a team ready to learn.

A huge thank you to our incredible staff for participating with such enthusiasm, bringing positive energy, and embracing the spirit of friendly competition! Your dedication, passion, and commitment to growth are what make Janus such a special place.💙

We were thrilled to welcome 5 Educational Assistants and the Learning Coordinator from J. C. Charyk Hanna School to our campus yesterday for a shadow day! We explored how proactive, positive approaches—such as personalized visual supports, daily planning tools, and transition systems—help students stay regulated and engaged throughout the day.

It was powerful to highlight how consistency and predictability across a team can make each day run more smoothly for both students and staff.

🎭 Big imaginations took centre stage at Janus! 🎭

Our Elementary students recently wrapped up an exciting 4-week Drama Day program with Quest Theatre, and the laughter, creativity, and confidence that filled our classrooms was incredible to see.

Each week, students were invited to move, create, collaborate, and step into new roles through interactive drama games and activities. In a fun and supportive environment, they practiced important skills while discovering new ways to express themselves.

Through the program, students built:

🤝 Connection through teamwork and shared experiences
🎨 Communication skills through storytelling and play
🏃 Engagement through movement-based learning

It was wonderful to watch students grow more comfortable, curious, and proud of themselves each session.

Thank you to Quest Theatre for bringing such a meaningful and memorable experience to our Elementary students. We loved every minute of it! 💙
