In case you missed it - FFCA Southeast Elementary's Empathy Pawject was featured by CBC News back in May. Special thanks to art teacher Rebecca Carruthers for organizing this great initiative to help students learn empathy for animals!
These kids learn 'em-paw-thy' by painting dogs who need homes | CBC News It's an unusual task for the budding artists in this Grade 4 class in a southeast Calgary school: paint a picture of real dogs needing adoption and let the pooches' personalities shine through.

Summer is almost officially here and although we are not able to do all our usual summer activities, one thing we can do is read. A Message from your Board of Directors:
The spotlight being shone on racism in the United States and Canada through the Black Lives Matter movement this past week has been both difficult and necessary. While we may be isolated from the riots and disturbing actions being witnessed through the lenses of cell phone cameras on social and traditional media, there is no escaping the hard reality that racism must be acknowledged and addressed. Engaged citizens are rightfully demanding that society at large resolve the long-standing issues of race-based inequality that have endured for decades.
FFCA’s core values of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, Self-Discipline, and Integrity are woven into every aspect of the learning experience for our students. As parents, educators, and leaders, we are committed to listening, exploring, and understanding all the ways we can contribute to a better society where no one is subjected to the hateful actions of others.
The late wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King, once said, "When you are willing to make sacrifices for a great cause, you will never be alone." The FFCA Board of Directors has been humbled and inspired watching this important movement spread across the globe. We applaud your support, and stand in solidarity with our students, staff, parents, and communities who are lending their voices to express their anguish, anger, and deep frustration with systems that oppress and devalue people of colour. We want to ensure you that you will never be alone.
