💃 Featured Artist: Veronica Delgado 💃
We asked our Wildflower artists to share a little about themselves and their work, and here’s what Veronica Delgado had to say:
My dance journey began at the age of three, training at a local dance studio in NW Calgary until I was seventeen. After graduating high school, I went on to study dance for four years at the University of Calgary, earning my BFA in Dance. Following my undergraduate studies, I moved to Manchester, England, where I spent three years completing my MA in Dance Choreography and Professional Practices while also teaching in primary schools. Through my education and training, I’ve had the opportunity to work across many styles, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, and Acro.
What excites me most about teaching is the ability to combine my knowledge and experience from each of these dance styles to expose students to a wide range of movement forms. By exploring more than just one style, students are able to grow as creative dance artists, engage with new ideas, and discover how different forms of movement connect.
I strive to create a welcoming and inspiring environment by meeting dancers where they are. Rather than focusing on perfection, I encourage students to enjoy the process of learning, exploring creative movement, and growing week by week. My lessons are rooted in creative play and emphasize collaboration, connection, and having fun.
One of my favorite parts of teaching is finding new and inventive ways to approach each class. I’m constantly inspired by my students and how they engage with the material, which allows me to grow and adapt as a dance educator. My hope is that students leave my classes having discovered new ways to express themselves, built friendships, and found joy in dancing and moving their bodies.

🏺 Featured Artist: Gillian Boon 🏺
We asked our Wildflower artists to share a little about themselves and their work, and here’s what Gillian had to say:
Clay found me before I even knew I was looking for it. In junior high, tucked away in the back corner of a construction class, sat a lone pottery wheel—a quiet invitation to something extraordinary. While others shaped wood, I spun mud into possibility, discovering the steady rhythm of clay beneath my hands.
Fast forward to 2007, when I walked into my first ceramics class at Red Deer Polytechnic. That spark quickly became a flame. Since then, clay has woven itself into the fabric of my life—sometimes messy, always magical. After finishing my degree, I became a studio member at Northmount Pleasant Art Centre and later Wildflower, with each space adding new layers to my craft and sense of community.
Today, I create in a cozy home studio that comes alive only after my little wild things drift off to sleep. Those quiet hours are where the magic happens. By day, I’m the Ceramic Technician at Wildflower Arts Centre—a keeper of kilns and caretaker of clay. My work happens largely behind the scenes: firing kilns, maintaining studios so creativity can flourish, and supporting members as they find their rhythm in the craft.
Every piece that passes through my hands—whether a sturdy pot, a whimsical clay dog, a sculpted box, or a tiny clay bee buzzing with charm—feels like a small chapter in a much bigger story. It’s a role rooted in transformation, where mud becomes memory and fire turns fragility into strength. Though I don’t often teach, I love being part of the quiet alchemy that makes the studio hum and connects makers to their art.
People often ask how I balance it all—staying creative in my own practice, positive at work, and showing up as a supermom. The truth? I must have a few extra hours tucked into my day that no one else can see. Between clay, kilns, and kids, life is a beautiful balancing act. It’s not exactly magic… but it feels pretty close.

💃 Featured Artist: Zarifa Rajha (Zaria) 💃
We asked our Wildflower artists to share a little about themselves and their work, and here’s what Zarifa Rajha (Zaria) had to say:
My dance journey began in hip-hop and krump, and later expanded to ballet, contemporary, modern, and interdisciplinary performance. With degrees in Performing Arts and English Literature, I approach movement as a form of storytelling, research, and lived experience. What excites me most about teaching at Wildflower Arts Centre is the chance to build classes that blend technique with imagination, and structure with play. I’m inspired by the diversity of each class, meeting new people, growing a sense of community over six-week sessions, and supporting my students’ curiosity and enthusiasm for movement.
Creating a welcoming and inspiring environment is central to my teaching. I believe everyone deserves to experience the relationship between body and mind—to understand how the body remembers and how it shapes our emotions, thoughts, and sense of self. In my classes, curiosity comes before perfection. I focus on cultivating safe, inclusive spaces where dancers of all levels feel seen, supported, and encouraged to try something new. I offer structure while leaving room for choice, improvisation, and personal interpretation, allowing each dancer to meet the movement in their own way. Humor, warmth, and presence are key to helping students feel comfortable, confident, and fully engaged.
I feel incredibly grateful to have discovered dance at a young age, as it has been a constant source of joy, grounding, and discovery in my life. Freestyle, creative, and contemporary dance are my go-to forms because they invite freedom and endless possibility. Every time I step into the studio, I feel energized, and I hope my students experience the same pleasure of movement, reconnection with the body, and excitement of exploration. My hope is that classes offer the green light to dive into new perspectives, playful challenges, and the deep curiosity our bodies crave when we truly listen and move.

🎨 Featured Artist: Maria Loaiza 🎨
We asked our Wildflower artists to share a little about themselves and their work, and here’s what Maria Loaiza had to say:
I’m inspired by exploration, past and contemporary artists, and especially my students—kids and seniors who bring fresh ideas and curiosity. I love asking them what they want to learn, which often sends me back to my studio to research, experiment, and play. I’m constantly wandering galleries, soaking up inspiration, and drawing from my community-based practice. All of this helps keep my classes dynamic, social, and full of creative energy.
What I enjoy most about guiding students through visual art is the freedom to explore. I love every form of artistic expression, especially when there’s room to create without limits. The social spirit of making art together is something I carry from my community projects, collaborations, and volunteer work with arts organizations. Watching students connect, experiment, and discover their own voice is incredibly rewarding.
My artistic style is experimental and boundary-free, shaped by my community work and mixed-media practice. I bring this same enthusiasm—along with inspiration from galleries and my own studio—into every class. My hope is that students leave feeling curious, confident, and empowered to continue exploring their creativity.

🎨 Featured Artist: Hugo Dubon 🎨
We asked our Wildflower artists to share a little about themselves and their work, and here’s what Hugo Dubon had to say:
Inspiration comes in many forms, but the opportunity and possibilities to create something new is a big part of my process.
This is what I try to instill in students when they are confronted with a blank canvas or paper: to think about their possibilities.
I enjoy seeing the satisfaction of students when they create something that, in their minds, was almost impossible. Seeing how a little knowledge can, and does, go a long way. I also encourage students to fail, which is one of the best ways to learn art.
When painting, I would describe my style as Realistic Impressionism—not quite loose, not quite tight—just enough to create a response to the subject matter with the briefest of strokes. Simplicity is beautiful. When drawing, it is the same approach; drawing and painting go hand in hand, in my opinion.
