HABITS FOR SUCCESS… to continue an earlier post … most of success is showing up. Here’s how many successful families show up for learning!

1. They keep important items visible. Out of sight often means out of mind, so they design their environment accordingly. If a project is due, they are reading a book … it’s out and visible.

2. They build accountability into their lives. Systems, routines, clear goals, and deadlines help them stay consistent. Lots of families use checklists and when the list is done, they are off to play!

3. They stop trying to do everything mentally. They create reminders, notes, and systems to carry the load. Modern life is complex, using tools and technology can help.

4. They plan for bad days. They create routines that work even when motivation disappears. Let’s face it, not every day is a great day but a routine sure helps keep the wheels in the bus.

5. They focus on consistency, not perfection. Missing one day doesn't become an excuse to quit. I recommend noting progress in a journal or daytimer because sometimes it’s difficult to see progress on a day to day basis but when they look back on the week, month or year … they can evidence of learning!

HABITS … I have run Phoenix for 22 years now and have met many, many families. Here are some of the habits successful families seem to have in common:

1. They use calendars for everything. They don't trust their memory with important dates, appointments, or deadlines. Some families use paper day-timers, other digital.

2. They make tasks smaller than necessary. Instead of "clean the house," it's "put away 5 items." Parent teach their kids to break tasks into manageable chunks.

3. They use timers constantly. Timers help them start, stay focused, and avoid falling into hyperfocus. This is super valuable in today’s digital era when it is all to easy to get sucked into social media or gaming platforms.
