People often ask me, upon learning that I am a voracious reader, how I prefer my books. Am I a traditionalist? Do I have an e-reader? The answer is that I am a ju**ie. I take my books in any darn form they come in. I love my physical books as though they were friends. I have an e-reader because it's practical in a lot of situations. I listen to audio books in the car when I'm driving for long periods. But when it comes to reading to your children? Absolutely go with the physical book. How can they learn what a page-turner is if they haven't anxiously turned the page for you so that they can hear what comes next? Have books in your house, both for them and for you. Let them see you reading. Take care of the books. Never allow books to be thrown. Buy them books that they are anxious to read or take them out of the library. Talk about books. In doing so you open up a world to your kids that empowers them and gives them a gift they will always have in good times and bad. I am so happy that both my kids are readers and no matter what else I've done right or wrong as a parent they will carry this gift always.
