TIME OUT PARENTS.

The Jo Frost Method of a Time-out isn’t about 'punishment'.
I say this first because the word 'punishment' is circulating around social media in association with punitive & authoritarian energy.
Even some professionals are misguided by its use, and I've been successfully helping families for nearly 4 decades.

However, using my adaptation of a T.O. or as you have become familiar with the label
' Naughty Step' is about creating calm when there's a storm, being respectful and establishing healthy boundaries, and NOT abandonment when behavior has crossed over that line.
Call it what you will, the application of when and how matters.

It is with no doubt a teachable moment when the method is applied correctly and not about controlling a child but navigating the circumstances with decisiveness and parental leadership.... As the adult, you must be the adult in the room.

It is a moment for all to reset, de-escalate, and connect with assertiveness, love & guidance, not more conflict. You are the Firefighter, NOT the Firestarter.

If you’ve thrown my method out with the 'gentle parenting' trend you’ve misunderstood its sole purpose and are probably one of thousands of parents who reach out to me daily via jofrost.com for my private help because your child is kicking, punching, spitting and not listening, fighting and swearing at you and if you are raising your children with how I've taught you all over the last 2 decades with emotional intelligence, healthy boundaries, empathetic communication and to respect your children, with having compassion for where you are at presently you are a parent who has hardly ever used it. My grandson is ND, and even I, instrumental in his formative years ,the professional, only used my own method twice.
I ask you to watch the post twice and read this again, in a world that wants your attention for distraction when I want it to better and value your own family first. Jo xx

Note : Seeking education on identifying the different types of 'tantrums' your child expresses and you want to learn how to respond and not react?

Be prepared: everything takes time. Building healthy eating habits starts as early as 6 months, so the further you are from that point, the longer it might take. But remember: it’s never too late!1. Before meals – no snacks or milk 1.5h (if younger) - 2 hours prior - This is super important because a little hunger makes kids more curious to try their food.- Water is totally fine- For breakfast, there’s no need to wait 2 hours, just don’t serve anything beforehand. 2. Consistency & routine - Offer 3 meals a day, even if they barely eat or refuse some of it- Having meals at the same time and in a similar structure every day really helps. 3. Veggies often- This helps kids get used to them over time, it takes patience, but eventually they’ll try- Lead by example, kids are more likely to try veggies if they see you enjoying them- Offer a variety of textures and colors 4. No snacks or fruits if the meal isn’t eaten (not immediately after ) - This avoids using sweets/snacks or their fave as a reward for not eating ! - Make it a neutral consequence rather than a punishment, if they skip it now, there’s always the next meal OR- Try offering the meal again after 30 minutes to an hour, it’s okay if they feel a little hungry- If they still don’t eat dinner, only then give a snack or milk to make sure they don’t go to bed hungryNotes:- These recommendations are for healthy kids without severe allergies or special medical conditions. They can be applied from 1 year and up- Make this plan a consistent part of your routine. If your child is sick, teething, or just having a rough day, it’s okay to make exceptions! This isn’t about being rigid, it’s about building habits! #mom #baby #toddlermom #toddler #toddlers #toddlerlife #blw #blwrecipes #blwideas #babyfood #babyfoodideas #toddlerfood #motherhood #sahmlife #babytips #momtips #firsttimemom #sahm #babiesbeingbabies #babies #babiesoftiktok #babylife #pickyeaters #parents #toddlermeals 09/10/2025
