Share Your Journey and Make a Difference!

Are you a father who has experienced the challenges of having a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)? We want to hear your story!

UBC is conducting a study to understand and improve the experiences of fathers during the critical transition from NICU to home. Your insights can help shape future support systems for families facing similar challenges.

What will you do?
If you choose to participate, you will take part in a one-time virtual interview or focus group (via Zoom) where you can share your experiences and perspectives as a NICU dad.

Study title: What are Fathers’ Preferences for Digital Support to Facilitate the Transition from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to home?

Researcher: This study is led by Dr, Elizabeth Keys, Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus

Who Can Join?
We're looking for fathers from diverse backgrounds who:
- 18 years or older
- Your infant was admitted to a NICU in Alberta for more than 24 hours since 2021.
- And be able to communicate in English.
- Have access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access

Earlier this year, Chloe, one of our research coordinators, participated in a test MRI for the Brain Imaging in Moderate-late Preterm infants (BIMP) Study. As a thank you, the BIMP team surprised her with a 3D-printed model of her brain! 🧠

🎉 Congratulations to our amazing P3 summer students and trainees who presented their research at the 2026 Maternal & Child Health Trainee Research Day!

Tina, Albany, and Maya showcased their summer research projects through poster presentations, while Hala delivered an oral presentation on her scoping review, Menstrual Blood as a Research Biospecimen. 🩸📊

We’re especially excited to congratulate Hala, who was awarded Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation! 🏆👏

We are so proud of all of the incredible work you all have contributed to maternal and child health research this summer! 💙

✨ Meet the Team: Tina Kahidi ✨
Tina is a summer student with the P3 Cohort and we're excited to have her back for another year! She is pursuing a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Health and Society at the University of Calgary. Her project this summer is focusing on the associations between screen time and development at one year old. In her free time, she loves spending time with friends, walking her dog, reading, and crocheting! 📚🐕
