Hello, I am Jane Kinzer, a teacher and accredited music therapist (retired), in Calgary, Alberta. I taught for many years in the public school system here and have been a regular classroom teacher, specializing in grades K-3, as well as an elementary music specialist. I also opened and taught at a neighbourhood preschool when my own kiddos were young. Throughout my teaching career, I have been part of many integration situations and so I know how challenging this is for everyone involved. This is not to say I don’t support integration, because I do, but I am realistic about the resources available for everyone in the classroom. I have developed techniques that incorporate learning objectives into musical activities. Brain research has shown that music has a unique way of engaging our brains which can help with learning. My goal is to provide support for students, teachers and parents by dove-tailing our sessions with the goals that are needed for your child’s success. I believe all children can learn. I believe learning needs to be engaging and student led. I believe young children learn best through play. I believe that music helps our brains to learn. These beliefs and my journey with teaching and learning and music have led me to starting this business. I feel that my experience is quite unique, being dually qualified. I understand the traditional classroom environment and the wide range of students who come to learn. My experiences have taught me that teachers must be extremely flexible, creative and observant to meet students where they are and then gently move them forward. Each child learns at their own speed and in their own unique way. Chime-In uses this information to learn along with children. Jane Kinzer B Ed, MTA (retired)
