During the heatwave I stopped writing in my gratitude journal. I’m not really sure why, other than without A/C I’ve had little energy to do anything. Today, I chose to not allow excuses, grabbed my journal and favourite pen and started writing. It doesn’t always come easy to find things to be grateful for, but when I start writing I surprise myself with what lands on the page. Even at times when it’s hard, when I set my mind to find something that brings me joy, I find it. Even if it’s just one thing. Today is a reset day and I will open this journal tomorrow and the days after that, with pen in hand.

So we have been informed that my late brother Vern has been nominated to be posthumously inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

Vern was a strong force and supporter of Canada's waterski community. It was his happy place and his family, and while we wait to see if this nomination is a success, we would like to thank those who took the time to put the nomination forward. I know Vern would be proud and touched to know that he left a positive legacy in the world of Waterskiing!

Today I reflect on the messages of what we need to Let Go in order to become who we are meant to be and to realize our dreams/goals:

Day 1: Let Go Of preconceived notions of what my life should and should not be.
Day 2: Let Go Of Fear and Doubt
Day 3: Let Go Of the Chaos
Day 4: Let Go Of the Inner Critic and Need for Perfection

And

Day 5: Let Go of Who you are today so that you make space to be who you were meant to be!

Letting go of the person and idea of who we are now can be a difficult process. We’ve spent our lives building what we have, our professional and personal identities, beliefs, and thoughts. But if you have a sense that there is more, your purpose and passion have not been found yet, then its important to make space in your life to find them.

Things won’t change unless we do. Let go of what is so that you can build what is To Be.

What? You're not perfect? You have flaws? Welcome to a very crowded club! You are not alone, and that is ok! It's more than ok. It means you are human, living aside 8 billion other imperfect people! Too often, that inner critic (I've named her Cruella) enjoys pointing to our flaws, cracks, and scars, purposefully ignoring our wonderful traits and our multitude of strengths.

There is a Japanese art involving the repair of broken pottery by rebuilding the object and filling the cracks with the lacquered dust of precious metals like gold, silver, or platinum. There are no attempts to hide the damage. Instead, it is vividly displayed with pride. The Japanese term for this is Kintsugi.

Despite humanity's ability to see the beauty in these imperfect objects, we often struggle to see the beauty in our scars. Indeed, for many people, self-acceptance is one of the hardest things to achieve. Seeing that the not-so-perfect parts in our lives and selves create the best opportunities for growth and progress. It is critical as it defines your mindset starting point in your quest to achieve a goal/dream.

So today, let go of that inner critic, embrace imperfections as your wisest teachers, and simply get out of your own way.

Tonight, as you spend Valentine’s with those you love, or perhaps alone with a favourite meal and beverage, give yourself permission to let go of the chaos of the world and your life. Be Present, be peaceful and be unapologetically unbusy.

The present is all we have in any given moment, so the more we make the most of those moments and stop getting pulled into the endless spiral of chaos, the more clarity we will have on what’s truly important in our lives. Just Be!

Happy Valentine’s!

In my previous Brainz article https://www.brainzmagazine.com/post/stop-saying-just-hope-for-the-best-but-prepare-for-the-worst I talk about the gift of hope and optimism and the power of a positive mindset.

Fear is important in identifying threats in our environment, so it is fair that, at times, the switch needs to be on.

When we are stepping toward our purpose, passion and who we are meant to become, facing the fears that stop us, telling us it’s not possible, it’s too hard, I am not worthy, that switch needs to be turned off. Fear and doubt must be let go and replaced with courage, grit, determination, and a sense of worthiness. That is where the magic happens!

When you are ready to step into the life you are meant for, it will take courage and resilience to let go of the things that no longer serve you. This week, I will post each day something to let go of that will move you closer to your goals, passion and purpose.

Today, I let go of preconceived notions of what my life should and should not be.

Stop Saying “Just Hope For The Best, But Prepare For The Worst” 01/30/2024

My latest article in Brainz Magazine to start off the year focuses on the importance of a positive mindset in achieving our dreams and navigating our everyday lives. If we are focused more on what could go wrong, obstacles and the worst-case scenario, how can we ever have the energy to hope, plan for, and drive toward success?

No, this is not about blind optimism because the reality is that life does sometimes throw us curveballs and, at times, knocks us off our feet. It is about having the tools to take back control of the situation and our mindset despite the tough times. It’s about moving from a surviving mindset to a thriving mindset.

Anton Broers, I hope you don't mind that I referenced your article "3 Empowering Mindsets and 3 Empowering Tools …". It's a great reference for anyone who takes the time to read it!
