Fun Fall Moves: Gross Motor Activities for Kids 🍁🍃🎃

Turkey trot:
Run in place with high knees like a turkey trying to escape.

Apple reach:
Stretch up on your tiptoes to pick apples from the tallest branches.

Puddle leap:
Take big leaps over imaginary puddles scattered on the ground.

Acorn toss:
Pretend to throw acorns into a basket, aiming carefully.

Corn maze dash:
Run in zigzags like you’re trying to find your way out of a corn maze.

Scarecrow balance:
Stand on one foot and hold your arms out like a scarecrow balancing in the wind.

Bear crawl:
Crawl on your hands and feet like a bear getting ready to hibernate.

Bonfire dance:
Dance around like you’re warming up by a cozy fall bonfire.

Spider crawl:
Get on all fours and crawl low to the ground like a sneaky spider.

Leaf pile jump:
Jump as high as you can, pretending to land in a big pile of leaves.

Hay bale hop:
Jump forward like you’re leaping over hay bales in a field.

Pumpkin push:
Pretend to roll a heavy pumpkin across the room using your hands.

Squirrel scurry:
Run and zigzag like a squirrel gathering nuts before winter.

Wagon pull:
Pretend to pull a heavy wagon full of pumpkins across the yard.

Pre writing skills (typically begin in early childhood around ages 2-5) are foundational abilities children need to develop. It strengthens small muscles in their hands and improve their coordination which is essential not only for writing letters, words and sentences but also setting them for broader success in school and daily life.

These are examples of prewriting activities:
-snipping/ using scissors
-peeling and sticking
-pasting
-picking with tongs
-manipulating loose parts , small toys, blocks or puzzle pieces
-moulding playdough
-pressing water spray bottles
- hammering
-inserting beads
-buttoning
- building with sand, dirt, snow
- water play -pouring and transferring
- squeezing droppers and sponges
