Meet our newest City Council... Grade 2 style! 🎩🗳
Last week, our Grade 2 students dove into the world of municipal government with a mock election. They filled out ballots, dropped them into boxes, and even elected their very own mayor and councillors—complete with official sashes!
The future of Calgary's leadership is in good hands.😉 So proud of these young citizens!

Our high school students stepped into the hot seat this week for mock job interviews. Paired up and taking turns as both interviewers and candidates, they practiced essential skills: confidence, communication, and thinking on their feet.

Bringing the library to our learners! 📖
This week, the Calgary Public Library's book truck made a special stop at Al-Qaim, and our Grade 3 students couldn't have been more thrilled. They explored, discovered, and each walked away with a new book to call their own.
Access to stories builds lifelong readers. Thank you to Calgary Public Library for this wonderful opportunity right at our school doors!

As we bid farewell to another blessed Ramadan, our students had the honour of participating in a beautiful Quranic recitation competition guided by the esteemed Mulanah Sheryar Abdi. 🕊️📖
With gentle hearts and melodious voices, they recited the words of the Quran, sharing the light and blessings of this holy month. What a meaningful way to celebrate the final days of Ramadan—surrounded by faith, learning, and community.

Swap a book, share a story! 📖🔄
Our Book Exchange event was a massive success this week, thanks to the dedication of Mr. Tay, who planned every detail. Students who brought in books over the past month got to take home something "new to them" to read and love.
The fun isn't over yet! :sparkles: We'll be drawing prizes this Monday for every single student who participated.

Learning + Creativity = The Spirit of Ramadan! ✨
Our Grade 3 students have been busy learning about the important practices and blessings of this holy month. After completing their Ramadan worksheets, they transformed them into beautiful paper lanterns—a symbol of light, hope, and celebration.
Seeing their understanding take shape (literally!) has been a joy. Ramadan Mubarak from our Al-Qaim family to yours! 🏮🌙

Learning, creating, and honouring.
During Black History Month, our students took the lead in celebrating Black excellence. They researched important historical figures, wrote thoughtful summaries, and illustrated their contributions—all displayed on this beautiful board for our school to learn from.
Thank you to our students for reminding us that history is made by remarkable individuals, and their stories deserve to be told.
On Wednesday, our students across all grades came together for a heartfelt stage play celebrating the blessed birthday of Imam Mahdi (AJTF). Today, one of our amazing parents shared this wonderful highlights reel and heartfelt words of appreciation for the entire event with us—and we're delighted to share it with all of you!
"The birth anniversary of Imam Mehdi (AJTF) was beautifully celebrated today at Al-Qaim International School, the first Shia Islamic school in Calgary, established in 2022. This is the first Shia Islamic school of its kind and operates as a completely free, No fees private chartered school, generously funded and founded by Brother Mr. Sail Abbas to serve the community.
The entire event was organized and managed by the students themselves, who handled all arrangements with great passion and dedication. The program included impressive tableaus, meaningful presentations, and beautiful anthems in honour of Imam Mehdi (AJTF), presented by students from different classes. A special cake-cutting ceremony and exhibitions were also part of the celebration, highlighting the creativity and love of the students for their Imam.
A large number of students participated with great excitement, and many parents also attended to support and encourage the children. After the program, refreshments were served, including cake, pizza, samosas, and other snacks, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere for everyone.
The chief guests for the event were respected Ulama-e-Kiram, whose presence added honour and blessings to this memorable celebration."

Celebrating World Hijab Day at Al-Qaim International School! 🧕✨
Sunday February 1st was World Hijab Day, and to celebrate, Al-Qaim International School held a special raffle for students to score some fashionable Hijabs!
Today we remind the world to recognize the beauty and significance of the hijab, and in Islam most of all. Students from all classes participated, and several lucky winners were gifted beautiful new hijabs!
Congratulations to all our raffle winners, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event so special!
