📢 Important Update for Child Care Operators in Alberta
The Government of Alberta has announced significant changes to affordability funding eligibility for new and expanding non-profit child care programs.
Effective June 4, 2026, new non-profit applicants must have already reached specific milestones in the licensing process to remain eligible for affordability funding. Existing non-profit programs will also face new limits on funded space expansions beginning June 19, 2026.
If you have a licensing application in progress, are planning a new centre, or are considering an expansion, it is important to review these changes and understand how they may affect your project.
The Churcher Group is reviewing the details and helping operators navigate the implications of these announcements. If you have questions about how these changes impact your centre, contact our team.

Leadership capacity can be stretched before things fully fall apart.
Sometimes it looks like reacting instead of responding.
Avoiding conversations you would normally handle.
Feeling like everything is urgent.
Becoming resentful about responsibilities you used to manage.
Or quietly believing everything depends on you.
These are not signs of failure.
They are signs that something may need attention:
support, boundaries, clearer systems, delegation, or time to pause and lead with more intention.
This Saturday’s workshop, Leading Yourself, is designed to help childcare leaders notice capacity strain earlier and build more sustainable leadership practices.
We’ll explore burnout prevention, boundaries, leadership identity, imposter syndrome, and practical tools for leading without carrying everything alone.

Are you the leader everyone reaches for first?
In childcare leadership, being supportive can slowly turn into being constantly available.
It starts small:
“Can I ask you something quickly?”
“Do you have a minute?”
“Sorry to message after hours…”
“Can you help with this?”
“Just one more thing…”
Scheduling questions.
Room issues.
Parent concerns.
Staff stress.
All landing on you.
And while support matters, being supportive should not mean being available for everything, all the time.
Boundaries are not a lack of care.
They help protect your capacity, create clearer communication, and support your team in knowing what is urgent, what can wait, and where responsibility belongs.
This Saturday, join us for Leading Yourself — a practical online workshop for childcare leaders on burnout prevention, boundaries, leadership identity, and sustainable leadership.

Brené Brown's No. 1 strategy for dealing with burnout
In today's world, experiencing some degree of burnout — when you're so mentally and physically exhausted that even basic tasks seem overwhelming — can feel inevitable.

Burnout does not always look like falling apart.
Sometimes it looks like still showing up.
Answering every message.
Solving every problem.
Staying calm for everyone else.
Saying “I’m fine” while feeling irritated, drained, and behind.
For many childcare leaders, burnout can build quietly because they are still functioning. They are still leading, still supporting staff, still responding to families, still keeping the program moving.
But capacity is not unlimited.
Childcare leaders carry emotional capacity, mental capacity, physical capacity, relational capacity, and leadership capacity — and all of those areas need protection.
This Saturday, join us for Leading Yourself, a practical online workshop for childcare professionals focused on burnout prevention, boundaries, leadership identity, and sustainable leadership practices.
You will leave with practical tools to help you notice capacity strain earlier, set healthier boundaries, and lead from a more sustainable foundation.
