Perfect Sew makes sewing tricky fabrics like silk super easy! Just mix the stabilizer with water, treat your fabric, and let it dry.

It makes your fabric paper-like, so cutting and sewing is a breeze. Start with a 1:4 stabilizer to water ratio and adjust as needed. Youโ€™ll need to wash the garment to remove the stabilizer.

Try it out, youโ€™ll love it!

To get a perfect stitched hem, I like to use fusible stay tape. This helps to keep the layers from shifting when you are top stitching. Any double sided fusible would work but I really love Ultra Double Sided Fusible from Design Plus. It is very light weight and transparent within the hem allowance. (find it here ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://tinyurl.com/3daspxdt )

Follow these easy steps for a perfect hem:

Step 1: Determine the hem allowance and clean finish the edge. Press up hem allowance. (pic 1)

Step 2: Open hem allowance and fuse double sided fusible to wrong side at edge of hem. (pic 2).

Step 3: Remove paper from fusible tape and finger press hem in place before a final press (pic 3).

Step 4: Top stitch at desired height. No pins required! Finished hem is perfect every time. (pic 4 & 5)

Frustrated in getting the hem the right length? Try this technique I learned from my husbandโ€™s tailor. Anyone can help mark your pants โ€“ even your husband!

Step 1: (pic 2 ) Grab a ruler (any length). Make sure you are wearing the intended shoes and with the ruler on the floor mark the top on both back pant legs.

(pic 3) This method takes into consideration uneven leg lengths. Notice my right leg is longer than my left (the right ruler is closer to the cut edge). This can occur if you have a high hip.

Step 2: (pic 4) Based on the mark, desired finished length, and hem allowance determine where to cut each pant leg (pic 5) and hem.

Presto! Pants will be the same length off the floor regardless of how long each leg is.

Having trouble with fabric bunching at the start of a seam?

Try placing a small square of tissue paper under the seam. It adds stability and prevents stitches from balling up or fabric getting pulled into the bobbin case. Just tear away the tissue when you're done for a neat, well-balanced seam. This trick works for everything from lightweight jersey knits to silk and rayon.

Give it a try on your next project!

Green is the colour of renewal and balance, and itโ€™s the perfect shade to welcome spring into your sewing room. Whether you love soft sage, bold emerald, or anything in between, green has a way of making every project feel fresh.

This spring, Pantone is highlighting two greenโ€‘family tones to inspire your makes:

๐ŸŒผ Acacia โ€” a warm green infused yellow that brightens any garment

๐Ÿ’Ž Alexandrite โ€” a glamourous teal that works beautifully with all colour palettes

โœจ ๐˜พ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฅ: Choose the green that suits you.
Warmer skin tones glow in yellowโ€‘based greens (olive, chartreuse, moss)
Cooler skin tones shine in blueโ€‘based greens (emerald, teal, pine)

Let green lead the way as you stitch into a fresh new season.

On Valentine's Day, many of us wear red to celebrate. Red symbolizes passion, confidence, and warmth. It can boost energy levels and make a bold statement.

In sewing, itโ€™s the colour that transforms clean lines into drama and simple silhouettes into showstoppers.

The late ๐—ฉ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ ๐—š๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ knew this intimately. His signature Valentino Red wasnโ€™t just a shade; it provoked emotion โ€” bold, romantic, unforgettable.

For sewists, red is an invitation:

โค๏ธ A sculpted wool coat
โค๏ธ A fluid bias cut dress
โค๏ธ A perfectly topstitched linen jacket
โค๏ธ Red piping that whispers couture

๐‘ป๐‘ฐ๐‘ท! Choose your red wisely: blue-based reds suit cooler skin tones, while orange-based reds suit warmer tones.

If that perfect red fabric has been waiting in your stash, this is your time!

Say hello to winter sewing bliss with my new toy, the Reliable 4100IS from Italy!๐Ÿ™‚

My old steam generator quit on me, and after a long hunt filled with duds, I found this gem. It gives endless steam and has the perfect weight. ย It's a dreamy must-have for avid sewists!

Albert Schweitzer once said, โ€œAt times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lightened the flame within usโ€.๐ŸŒ…

As a young girl, my mom ignited my passion for sewing๐Ÿ’—. Later, Pati Palmer rekindled that spark giving me the courage to teach. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ

Thank you both, as I would not be here today without your encouragement.

For my Canadian friends, enjoy your Thanksgiving with family and friends. Be grateful for those who have rekindled that spark in you!

๐ŸŒžWith summer coming to a close, I wanted to share a dress which has become one of my favโ€™s. A simple sleeveless rayon sundress, letting the fabric speak for itself. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Iโ€™m a firm believer in pattern reuse, so I chose to reuse princess seamed dress pattern Butterick B6850. This is a great Palmer/Pletsch pattern if you want to learn how to fit a princess seam. ๐Ÿ‘— Looks fabulous on those fuller busted. I have made the dress in linen as well as a stretch velvet. Each dress has slightly different details making them unique to themselves.

I wore the dress the other day and a perfect stranger stopped me and commented on how nice the dress looked. What a great way to start your day! ๐Ÿ˜

Enjoy the last few warm days as we transition into fall!
