**REPOST FROM 2021***
One day, I received a text from my boyfriend that said ‘I’m in this seminar about ADHD. I think you might have it.’
I laughed. And thought ... he’s probably not wrong! 😂 but didn’t really take it seriously.
But when he got home that day I asked him why he thought that, I wasn’t upset, or offended, just genuinely curious.
He said ‘watch this video’ .
I think I got half way through when I said,
‘Oh-My-Gosh.... my entire adult life makes sense. You are right. I’m sure I have ADHD.’
The next day I booked an appt with my Dr.
On July 5, 2020, I was diagnosed with ADHD, and immediately started medication.
I got quite a bit of back lash from people around me.
Things I commonly hear....
* skills before pills Jackelyn!
* So now you have an excuse to be lazy?
* Well don’t just blame ADHD for everything you’re having a hard time with.
* It’s not that hard, if I know I need to do something I just do it.
* ADHD is just something made up to hand out medication
* Everyone has a hard time focusing
Here’s the thing....
Skills are great! Absolutely! I’ve got endless skills guys.... my problem is I can’t access them sometimes. My brain is too noisy.
My ADHD is NOT an excuse. But it is an EXPLANATION for why I struggle with certain things.
I’m NOT LAZY. In fact, when I’m hyper focused, I can accomplish more in an hour than most people do in a day.
The diagnosis helps me look in the right places to find tools that will work FOR ME. The medication helps quiet the noise so I can access the skills I already have.
I will always be grateful for that text message...
Drop a 🙄 if someone has ever discredited your diagnosis

Focusing on the positive helps children feel seen for what they’re doing right.
When we catch them doing good, we build confidence, connection, and motivation.
What we notice grows 🌱
When we lead with empathy, children feel with us, not against us.
It tells them: I’m not alone in this feeling.
We can pair empathy with validation - name what’s hard, share understanding, and still hold boundaries.
It’s not me against you.
It’s us against the problem.
Validation is one of the most powerful tools we have.
It tells a child: your experience matters.
Validation doesn’t mean we agree with the behavior.
It means we see the emotion underneath it.
When we name and honor what a child is feeling, we build safety, connection, and trust.
And often, that alone is enough.
You don’t have to fix it.
You just have to see them.
See you there 🎄
