☕ A slow cup of coffee.

The experience of having a little ease and time is something I haven't had for a very, very, very long time.

A very long time.

Is my life resolved?

No.

But I've added full time physical labour/work to my repertoire and these moments are extra extra important now 😂

It's been a beat since I've been on that train and I'm looking forward to it. I am so grateful this past month and a half to have my physical well-being and recovery-time back enough to do so.
I would typically rather do meaningful work than go to the gym. That was something I had loved about gardening...
But this girl needs variety with just enough predictability...

There is a difference between learning to experience more ease within your circumstances and your circumstances actually becoming easier.

Perspective matters. Neuroplasticity matters. Nervous system work matters.

And sometimes we also require real experiences of ease.

Not imagined ease. Not reframed difficulty. Not becoming better at tolerating what is hard.

Actual ease.

Moments of ease that are real and not only perspective or neuroplasticity are a necessity for people's wellness.

Our wellness requires some lived evidence that life does not have to be difficult all of the time.

I think the distinction I am making here is extremely important to the work.

I’ve spent a lot of time talking about perception, perspective, neuroplasticity, nervous-system regulation, identity, and increasing what becomes available to a person internally.

But none of that should accidentally become an argument that people ought to be able to internally manufacture wellness regardless of their conditions.

Sometimes the environment actually has to change.

Honestly, that's usually something we do through the work, however—remembering we only choose for ourselves, and many others become involved in our environments.

We tend to do most everything backwards on this planet, so we are still always offering advice from the wrong inversion.

Advice coming from adaptation 🦠 versus 🪷 evolution.

So much advice is about surviving what we shouldn't be putting each other through—and then putting the onus on the vulnerable...

Anyhow, I digress for the moment...

Sometimes the demand has to lessen.

Sometimes the threat has to leave.

Sometimes there has to be enough money, time, privacy, support, stability, distance, quiet, or physical ease for the system to experience something other than adaptation.

And a real experience of ease gives the nervous system information that imagining ease cannot entirely substitute for.

That makes my line:

“Moments of ease that are real and not only perspective or neuroplasticity.”

quite significant.

Greater capacity should also increase someone's availability to recognize:

🪷 This is hard because I am growing.
🪷 This is hard because it matters.
🪷 This is hard because I am learning something unfamiliar.

And:

This is hard because my conditions are actually f ucking hard.

Those are not the same problem.

🧭 And a sophisticated perceptual system should become better at distinguishing them—not better at overriding the distinction.

🩵⇄🧭 Accessible does not mean lesser.

That distinction matters to me.

One Intentional Hour is intentionally one of the more accessible ways to work with me privately.

Not because the work is somehow a smaller or watered-down version of something else.

Not because it is a sale-bin version of private work.

Because not every person needs the same amount of access.

Not every moment requires weeks of continuity.

Not every season calls for a deep private container.

Sometimes one intentional hour is exactly the right amount of space.

A place to return to yourself.

To think something through.

To untangle what has become knotted.

To be accompanied while you begin.

To hear yourself differently.

To access something that has become harder to reach from inside your own experience.

And sometimes somebody wants more continuity than one conversation can provide.

Those are different needs.

Different containers.

Different levels of access.

But the care, attention, perception, and presence I bring do not become less valuable because the container is smaller.

That is why One Intentional Hour will remain part of my more accessible private work.

Because accessibility matters.

Relationship matters.

And not every meaningful moment needs to be financially or structurally enormous before it is allowed to matter.

One Intentional Hour is currently available during August for $50 USD.

Regularly $65 USD.

Purchase during August and choose any available appointment within the following 90 days through the live calendar at checkout.

🧭 Sometimes I will see something before you do.

Sometimes I will feel the shape of something before either of us has language for it.

Sometimes I will recognize the pattern while you are still living inside the individual pieces.

That is part of my skill.

But what matters just as much is what I do after I notice it.

I do not believe unusual perception gives me authority over somebody else's life.

I don't need to immediately name everything I sense.

I don't need you to agree with me.

And I don't need my first interpretation to become the truth.

Sometimes I will say:

Wait.

Listen to what you just said.

Sometimes I will ask a question.

Sometimes I will gently put pressure against an existing perspective and see what happens.

Sometimes I will say almost nothing because what I am noticing does not feel ready to be handled yet.

Sometimes I need more information.

Sometimes you need more capacity.

Sometimes your body appears to know something your intellect has not caught up to yet.

And vice versa.

Sometimes the most useful thing I can do is keep noticing without forcing what I notice into language before it has become clear enough to serve you.

That distinction matters enormously to me.

Because my job is not to replace your knowing with mine.

My perception is another source of information inside the room.

It can illuminate.

Differentiate.

Interrupt a loop.

Reveal an overlooked possibility.

Help us notice where two things that looked identical actually are not.

But there is no Courtney-shaped conclusion you are expected to arrive at.

I can see something strongly and still leave room for you to show me that I am wrong.

In fact, I think that is part of what keeps perception useful.

The goal is not certainty.

The goal is enough clarity and differentiation that more of what is actually happening can become available.

And then we see what survives closer examination.

What if the problem is not that you don’t understand yourself?

What if the problem is that you do understand a great deal—but you do not always have access to everything you know while life is actually happening?

That distinction became one of the most important in my work.

Because choice is not only:

Do I know what I should do?

Choice also depends on:

What can I perceive?

What can I tolerate?

What am I actually feeling?

What is my body doing?

What does my thinking know?

What does identity believe is possible?

What am I afraid this will cost me?

What is actually happening around me?

What future can I access from here?

And perhaps most importantly:

How much of me is actually available while I am trying to decide?

That question became part of the genesis of nearly everything I later built around access, emotional navigation, coherence, capacity, self-trust, natural momentum, and the Four Bodies.

So I created a small collection called:

Usable Moments: Practical Pieces for Everyday Life

The first piece, The Beginning of The End, is free.

It begins inside the period when I realized I needed to create internal protection during the end of my relationship without allowing that protection to become permanent detachment.

And it moves into the practice of noticing when you have stopped including yourself.

Noticing is not the failure.

The noticing is the practice happening.

There is also a free printable companion attached:

Where the Practice Is Already Happening

It gives you short questions and I-am statements you can place wherever reflection already naturally happens in your life.

No new routine.

No practice to perform correctly.

Just somewhere to notice yourself while you are already living.

The full Usable Moments collection is CA$5 and continues into capacity, stretching versus overriding, what kind of problem you are actually standing inside, natural momentum, joy, play, imagination, longing, lived evidence, and the architecture underneath your own experience.

You can start with the free piece inside Perspective by Design.

Find it through the STAN link in my bio.

Read it.

Use the printable.

Notice what follows you afterward.

There is a part of this work I have been talking about more lately:

Receiving.

Because sometimes we are so accustomed to effort that even support becomes something else to manage.

Another thing to understand correctly.

Another thing to perform.

Another thing to turn into action before we have actually received it.

But receiving matters.

Receiving enough of yourself to notice what is there.

Receiving enough relief for something else to become perceptible.

Receiving enough safety and grace from yourself that you are not immediately required to fix, defend, explain, improve, or act.

Receiving enough space for something to take root.

This is not passive.

It is part of creating the conditions in which more of you can actually participate.

Sometimes what becomes possible next does not need more force.

It needs more room.

That is part of the Architecture of Care underneath the 21-Day Private Orientation.

Not one method.

Not one predetermined outcome.

Enough room to notice what is actually available when the person does not have to spend the entire engagement performing their way through it.

Three private September places begin September 9.

Full details are being released through the private interest list first.

🩵⇄🧭 Sometimes you know exactly what you need to do.

You just cannot quite seem to begin.

Write the email.

Make the phone call.

Start the project.

Organize the room.

Think through the decision.

Sit with the grief.

Finish the thing.

Say what you already know you need to say.

Sometimes nothing is particularly wrong with your understanding.

Sometimes another steady person nearby while you remain in relationship with yourself is simply enough to change what becomes available.

That is part of what One Intentional Hour can be.

Not someone taking over.

Not someone directing your life.

Not someone trying to turn every moment into a breakthrough.

Sometimes it is the feeling of another nervous system nearby while you stay with yourself long enough for the next thing to become reachable.

Someone to quietly share space with while you untangle your thoughts.

Someone rooting for you too.

Someone who can notice when you disappear from your own knowing for a moment and help you find your way back toward it.

Sometimes we simply deserve not to be alone with everything.

One Intentional Hour is a spacious, guided hour of orienting to yourself.

There is no script.

No prescribed outcome.

No requirement that you accomplish something impressive before the hour is worthwhile.

Sometimes the shift is simply that you began.

Sometimes you finally said it out loud.

Sometimes you sat beside something instead of immediately escaping it.

Sometimes you remembered exactly who you are.

That you are.

☕ Sensitivity by itself is not enough.

That became one of the most important things I had to learn about the way I perceive.

I have always registered people deeply.

Tone.

Undercurrents.

Incongruence.

Changes in energy and pacing.

What somebody says.

What they do not say.

What happens in my own body while I am with them.

Sometimes I notice something before I understand why I am noticing it.

But noticing more does not automatically mean understanding more.

Sensitivity without discernment can become projection.

Intuition without self-awareness can become certainty.

Empathy without boundaries can become enmeshment.

Pattern recognition can become assumption if we stop questioning what we think we see.

So a large part of developing my own perception has actually involved becoming less interested in immediately being right.

I learned to ask:

What belongs to me?

What belongs to you?

What am I sensing?

What am I interpreting?

What is my own history adding?

What is activation?

What is pattern recognition?

What is intuition?

What is fear?

What needs more information?

And what simply needs to remain unnamed for a little while longer?

That changed the quality of my sensitivity.

It gave me somewhere to stand inside it.

And strangely, greater discernment did not make me perceive less.

It allowed me to perceive more without needing to prematurely collapse everything I notice into an answer.

That is an important part of what I bring when I work with somebody.

I can notice strongly and still remain curious.

I can feel something and still question it.

I can recognize a pattern without demanding that you organize your life around my interpretation of it.

And sometimes that means we can stay with something long enough for information that would have disappeared under certainty to actually become visible.

If you are interested in working with me, you can find my current ways of working together in my Stan Store.

🧭 We make character judgments about capacity all the time.

Lazy.

Avoidant.

Unmotivated.

Difficult.

Inconsistent.

Self-sabotaging.

Too sensitive.

Not trying hard enough.

But behaviour is visible.

Capacity usually is not.

And those are not the same thing.

A person can care deeply and still not have access to the response they believe they “should” be able to make.

They can understand exactly what needs to happen and still be unable to make themselves begin.

They can love someone and still become reactive.

They can value honesty and still go quiet.

They can know the boundary and still not be able to hold it when attachment, belonging, fear, exhaustion, history, physiology, and consequence all arrive at once.

That does not automatically tell us who they are.

It tells us something about what was available to them in that moment.

This is one of the central distinctions in my book:

Capacity is not character.

And choice does not happen outside of conditions.

When a person's available capacity narrows, their accessible range of response can narrow with it.

That does not remove accountability.

It gives us a more accurate place from which to locate it.

Because accountability without understanding can become punishment.

And understanding without accountability can become excuse.

Accuracy asks for both.

This is also why “you know better” is such an incomplete measurement of human behaviour.

Knowing is not the same thing as having access.

Awareness is not the same thing as integration.

Intention is not the same thing as capacity.

And a theoretically available choice is not necessarily an accessible choice.

That distinction matters everywhere.

In relationships.

Parenting.

Work.

Addiction.

Education.

Health.

Leadership.

Poverty.

Procrastination.

Personal development.

Everywhere we judge people according to choices without first asking what choices were actually available to the system making them.

The Four Frequencies — Your Four Bodies does not ask us to excuse behaviour.

It asks us to become more accurate about what behaviour can and cannot tell us.

Because when we confuse capacity with character, we often turn limitation into identity.

And once we turn it into identity, curiosity closes.

The person becomes:

lazy.

weak.

difficult.

broken.

bad.

Instead of a human being whose body, mind, emotional world, identity, history, meaning, relationships, and present conditions are all participating in what becomes possible next.

That is a much larger field.

And I think we make better choices when we are willing to see it.
