This is one of my favourite ways to bring Urdu into children’s lives—through stories, games and real interaction.

Instead of always making Urdu feel like a subject they have to study, let them experience it, play with it, laugh with it and use it.

In this game, the children had to guess the Urdu word from the letters I showed them—and they absolutely loved it!

That’s how we build a connection with a language. Not just by teaching it, but by making it part of their lives.

یہ اردو کو بچوں کی زندگی میں واپس لانے کا ایک خوبصورت اور تفریحی طریقہ ہے—کہانیوں، کھیلوں اور گفتگو کے ذریعے۔

اردو کو ہمیشہ ایک ایسے مضمون کے طور پر نہ پیش کریں جسے بچوں نے صرف پڑھنا ہے۔ انہیں اردو بولنے، کھیلنے، ہنسنے اور استعمال کرنے کا موقع دیں۔

Urdu is his second language, so I’m not just teaching him to memorize verbs — I’m helping him understand and use them in context.

In this activity, he reads the Urdu verbs and looks at the pictures to identify which action is happening. This helps build reading, vocabulary, comprehension, and real-life language understanding at the same time.

A simple activity, but a very important step for children learning Urdu as a second language.

اردو اس کی دوسری زبان ہے، اس لیے میں اسے صرف افعال یاد نہیں کروا رہی بلکہ اسے ان کے معنی سمجھنے اور انہیں درست موقع پر استعمال کرنے میں مدد دے رہی ہوں۔

اس سرگرمی میں وہ اردو کے افعال پڑھتا ہے اور تصویروں کو دیکھ کر پہچانتا ہے کہ کون سا کام ہو رہا ہے۔ اس طرح ایک ہی سرگرمی کے ذریعے پڑھنے، ذخیرۂ الفاظ، فہم اور روزمرہ زبان کو سمجھنے کی صلاحیت بہتر ہوتی ہے۔

تشدید (ّ) کا مطلب ہے کہ حرف کی آواز دو مرتبہ آتی ہے۔

مثلاً:
رَسّی → س کی آواز دو مرتبہ ہے۔

‏Shadda (ّ) means the sound of the letter is pronounced twice.

یہ اصول یاد رکھیں—اگلی بار تشدید دیکھیں تو آواز پر ضرور غور کریں۔

اردو پڑھنے کی بنیاد حروف کی درست پہچان اور درست آوازوں سے بنتی ہے۔

جب بچہ آوازوں کو پہچان لیتا ہے تو اگلا مرحلہ آتا ہے: آوازوں کو ملانا، حروف کو جوڑنا اور پھر لفظ پڑھنا۔

اس طرح بچہ آہستہ آہستہ پڑھنے کی مہارت حاصل کرتا ہے۔

اردو اس بچے کی پہلی زبان نہیں، اس لیے مرحلہ وار اور درست طریقے سے پڑھنے کی مشق خاص طور پر اہم ہے۔

‏The foundation of Urdu reading is built through correctly recognizing letters and producing their correct sounds.

Once a child can recognize the sounds, the next step is to blend those sounds, join letters together, and then read words.

This is how a child gradually develops reading skills.

Instead of rushing to make children memorize whole words, teach them to recognize sounds and blend them together.

Urdu is not this child’s first language, so practicing reading in a structured and correct way is especially important.
