At Lincoln Institute one of our core goals is to help the profession succeed, so having the opportunity to participate and contribute at this week's Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Sustainable Practice Forum really tapped into our higher purpose. Lincoln Director Dr Michael Powell attended alongside industry stakeholders at all levels from across Australia and New Zealand. Those attending included Registrars from the New Zealand Vet Council and Representatives from the Australian Vet Boards, Deans of several vet schools and other Industry Educators, the AVA, NZVA, VSANZ, ANZCVS, private practice to name just a few. Together we can make the profession better. Dr Powell showcased Lincoln's Leading Edge for Vets Program, an initiative to increase the levels of satisfaction, happiness and success and designed to retain the talent in clinical practice.

That’s a wrap at The Vet Expo, the event concluded with a Plenary by Lincoln founder Paul Ainsworth on Adaptive Leadership, so good to meet new colleagues and old friends at the event, also great to be face to face with some of our Lincoln team member family 😊

Thursday 27 October (Plenary)

12.30pm: Gary Turnbull: Why Veterinarians are walking away from clinical practice….a Global Survey update

With a focus on sustainability, the Lincoln Institute embarked on a global survey in 2021 to build on the findings from their Veterinary Shortage Study of 2018. In this presentation Gary will reveal the key findings and feedback from both employed veterinarians and veterinary business owners across Australia and New Zealand. He will also share several exciting opportunities based on the data to promote professional fulfilment and career longevity for veterinarians.

2.00pm: Gary Turnbull: Time Management and its impact on Veterinarian Engagement

In a recent survey, 9 out of 10 veterinarians confirmed they do not have sufficient time in the working day to do their job to their satisfaction and enjoy an appropriate lunch break and leave work on time. Time pressure is a significant source of anxiety for veterinarians and increases the risk of chronic stress, fatigue and burn-out.
In this presentation, Gary will explore why veterinary practice is fundamentally predisposed to excessive time pressure and the deleterious impact it has on practice culture and client experience, not to mention the toll it takes on the welfare of clinicians. He will share 3 simple strategies that can be rapidly implemented to claw back significant amounts of time each day and leave veterinarians feeling a sense of control in their working life.

3.00pm: Paul Ainsworth: Adaptive Leadership:

Adaptive Leadership is central to tackling the confluence of challenges facing the industry right now, namely a shortage of vets, a high case load due to increased pet ownership and the effects of both of these on mental health.
