St Eddies students & RAP Team "All in for Reconciliation"

Despite the disappointment of inclement weather on Friday postponing our Year 9 History Excursion to the 20th Aboriginal Torres Strait Veterans Commemoration to Friday 12th June (a big day coinciding with our College Disco). Our students have been tremendous in learning about First Nations people, stories, and culture in the classroom, across the school and in community throughout Reconciliation week which continues to Mabo day 3rd June.

On Tuesday 6 members of our student RAP Team preparing for Red Dirt in the Term break joined Mayor Christine Kay and Uncle Brendan Kerin (son of St Edmunds 1951 student David Kerin) for a Sorry Day learning and smoking ceremony at Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden.

Then on Thursday student RAP leaders Isaac, Aaron and Hunter joined Catholic Schools Broken Bay Jarjum Team for a gathering on North Heads St Paul's Manly (formerly a Christian Brothers / EREA school which is now Co educational). CSBB are preparing to host the 2027 Catholic Schools NSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Educational Conference and invite St Edmunds to take a leadership role through our students and community connections.

St Pauls Principal Ms Gabie Stojanovski was so impressed with our students they were given a tour of the historical "Cardinal's Palace" including the Chapel (pictured below) where the original Christian Brother Teachers would gather to pray before each day of teaching and learning.

Our Reconciliation Week activities culminate with Assembly this Friday and a visit by Army regional Indigenous Liason Officer CB MGGarrity who last year presented our Red Dirt Team with a ceremonial spear to carry the flame as ambassadors for Reconciliation who celebrate the stories, families, culture and backgrounds of every student and member of our community.

Eddies Red Dirt Team @ Sorry Day Commemoration with Uncle Brendan

6 of our Year 11 Red Dirt Expedition Ambassadors for Reconciliation kicked off Reconciliation Week with a Ku-ring-gai Council Sorry Day Event led by Uncle Brendan Kerin the son of St Edmunds 1951 student David Kerin who hailed from Arrente Mparntwe (Alice Springs) country.
Uncle Brendan explained the significance of Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week, and the impact of separating Aboriginal children from families, stories, country and culture, before leading an educational and entertaining yidaki ("donโ€™t say didgeridoo") performance and smoking ceremony. Morning tea with Mayor Christine Kay, Councilors, Matt Devlin, Cedric Spencer, students and staff and walk around the Wildflower gardens and boardwalk rounded out our morning.

It was a great Reconciliation Week cultural segway for our students who later this Term will be part of our learning on the Red Dirt Expedition.

St Edmunds Wahroonga celebrates the people, stories and songlines associated with our country, and the fact that we live, work, learn and play on what was, is, and always will be, Darramurragal land.

Acting Deputy Principal

On Tuesday afternoon, we hosted our Disability & Post School Expo. From employment and therapies to recreation, advocacy and social opportunities, the Expo highlighted the incredible support networks within our community and the many pathways available beyond school ๐ŸŒŸ

As part of the Expo, we asked our providers one simple question: What does every young person deserve?

Their responses reinforced our shared belief as a community that every young person deserves to feel valued, empowered and supported to reach their full potential โœจ

What an incredible afternoon at our Disability & Post School Expo! ๐ŸŒŸ

It was wonderful to see so many families, students, alumni and service providers come together to connect, share information and explore pathways for the future. From employment and therapies to recreation, advocacy and social opportunities, the Expo highlighted the amazing support networks available within our community ๐Ÿค

Thank you to all of the providers who generously gave their time to attend, and to everyone who came along to make the event such a success. Of course a huge thank you to our wonderful Family Engagement officer, Lisa, for organising such an incredible event.

We hope families left feeling informed, empowered and excited about the possibilities ahead ๐ŸŒŸ
