Today is Australia Primary Principals’ Day. Congratulations to our phenomenal Principal Douglas, pictured here with his certificate celebrating 35 years of service.

Douglas is instrumental in creating the special school culture and experience that we have at Pender’s Grove. He leads with warmth and kindness and empathy and approachability. He genuinely cares and wants to give every student and staff member the support they need to thrive. He lives and breathes the values of inclusion and integrity.

Douglas’s education journey includes teaching, being a welfare coordinator, an Assistant Principal and since 2013, our Principal. He has multiple degrees including his recently completed Masters of Learning Intervention (Learning Difficulties) from the University of Melbourne.

He and his partner Trish (who is just as accomplished and works as a teachers aide and runs our library) are local to the area, and part of the community with their now grown daughter having attended the school.

Douglas spends far too many hours at the school outside of hours volunteering his time in the garden / around the grounds, and is often seen accompanied by his dog Monty, assistant to the Principal.

Congratulations Douglas on so many years of loyal service and making such a positive difference in so many people’s lives. We are lucky to have you!

What an amazing NAIDOC Celebration we had at Pender’s Grove. Thank you so much Uncle Trevor for our Acknowledgement of Country and Smoking Ceremony, Keadin and BJ from Fitzroy Stars FNC for the footy clinic, and Ganga Didjeridu Giri for the phenomenal performance.

We are very lucky to have a strong proud Indigenous community and it’s part of what makes Pender’s Grove so special. Very grateful for the opportunity to come together to listen and learn and celebrate.

A shout out to our parent volunteers Mary, Sophia and Andrew who worked so hard to give our students this experience, and DarebinCouncil for their generous grant.
