CASE #001 HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN FILED
The first case to come before Belief Court is:
THE PEOPLE v.
“I should be better with money by now.”
It sounds like a reasonable enough belief.
You’ve been an adult for a while.
You’ve earned money.
You’ve paid bills.
You’ve made financial decisions — some good, some perhaps not so good.
So surely, by now, you should have this money thing figured out.
But should you?
That’s what Case #001 is going to examine.
Because the moment we say “I should be better with money by now”, a whole lot of questions appear.
Better than what?
By what age?
Compared with whom?
According to whose standard?
There may be very good reasons this belief exists. There may even be evidence supporting parts of it.
But Belief Court doesn’t accept a belief as fact simply because we’ve thought it for a long time.
So over the next few weeks, we’re going to open the case file.
We’ll hear the charge.
We’ll find out where this belief may have come from.
We’ll examine evidence for and against it.
We’ll call witnesses.
We’ll cross-examine some of the assumptions hiding inside it.
And we’ll hear from you, because I suspect there is going to be some very interesting evidence sitting in this jury.
And there’s one more rather important piece of court business to take care of...
Who will take the bench as the very first Judge of Belief Court?
You’ll meet our Judge soon.
For now, Case #001 is officially filed.
