💛 Little Feet… Big Steps Towards Big School 💛

On Friday, our Preschool children had the wonderful opportunity to visit Blacktown South Public School for a special library excursion as part of our Transition to School Program.

We are incredibly grateful to Blacktown South Public School for inviting us and warmly welcoming our children into their learning community. Experiences like these help transform the unknown into the familiar, giving children the confidence to take those exciting first steps towards school.

Walking through the school grounds, visiting the library, meeting teachers, and sharing stories alongside other students allows children to begin building meaningful connections with an environment they may soon call their own. For many, these are the very peers they may be learning and growing alongside next year.

Transition to school is about so much more than learning letters and numbers. It is about developing a sense of belonging, understanding school routines and expectations, building confidence in new environments, and fostering positive relationships before the very first day.

At Aurora, we believe that thoughtful, real-world experiences like these help children approach this important milestone with curiosity, confidence and excitement rather than uncertainty.

Turning nervous first steps into confident new beginnings 💛

There were no worksheets. No right or wrong answers. Just natural treasures, loose parts and endless possibilities. 🌿

On Friday, Jo and Caity created an inviting learning experience where our Preschool children sorted, categorised, compared and explored a collection of natural materials.

While it looked like simple play, children were developing early mathematical thinking through sorting and patterning, expanding their language as they described textures and shapes, strengthening fine motor skills, and building problem-solving skills by testing their own ideas.

The beauty of loose parts play is that there isn’t a single “correct” answer. Children become the thinkers, creating their own systems, making connections and revisiting their ideas as their understanding grows.

At Aurora, we know some of the richest learning happens when curiosity leads the way. 🤎🍂

✨ Play with purpose. Learn through wonder. Grow through exploration ✨

Our children explored the art of threading colourful sensory silk scarves through netting, discovering, creating and problem-solving at their own pace.

As tiny fingers grasped, pushed, pulled and threaded the silky fabrics through the openings, they were strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers, the essential foundations for future skills such as drawing, cutting, fastening buttons and eventually writing.

The soft, flowing silk scarves also provided a beautiful sensory experience. Their texture, vibrant colours and gentle movement created a calming environment that encouraged children to slow down, focus and persevere. These quiet moments of concentration help develop patience, sustained attention and self-regulation.

Threading is also an early introduction to more complex bilateral coordination tasks, requiring children to use both hands together while developing hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and problem-solving and creative thinking!

Sometimes the most meaningful learning doesn’t come from complicated resources. It comes from simple, open-ended experiences that invite children to explore, discover and succeed in their own unique way 💛 💛

🌟 Celebrating 11 Years of Passion, Purpose & Leadership 🌟

Some people simply do a job. Others dedicate their lives to making a difference.

This July, we’re incredibly proud to celebrate 11 years of our wonderful Director, Lisa. 💛

For over a decade, Lisa has led Aurora with kindness, integrity and unwavering dedication. As an exceptional early childhood teacher and leader, she oversees our educational programs, champions child safety, mentors our team and creates an environment where children, families and educators feel supported, valued and inspired.

What makes Lisa truly special isn’t just what she does but it’s how she does it. She leads with compassion, listens with empathy, and brings out the very best in everyone around her. Her warmth, wisdom and genuine care have touched the lives of countless children, families and educators.

On a personal note, Lisa has taught and inspired three of my own children, with my middle child now preparing to sit his HSC. Watching the lasting impact she’s had on them is a testament to the incredible educator and person she is.

Lisa, thank you for 11 years of outstanding service, leadership and heart. We are so grateful to have you as part of the Aurora family.

💐 Please join us in congratulating Lisa on this incredible milestone! If she’s made a difference in your family’s life or career, we’d love for you to leave her a message below. ♥️

With love - Dalal ♥️

🤍 Community Pantry 🤍

At Aurora, we believe that a strong community looks after one another.

Our Community Pantry is here for all of our families. Whether you’re having a particularly tough week financially, juggling a busy schedule and haven’t had the chance to get to the shops, or simply need a helping hand, please know that this pantry is here for you!

Take what you need, when you need it. 💛

If you’re in a position to give back, we’d also love for you to consider donating non-perishable food items or other pantry essentials. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps support another family in our Aurora community.

A very special thank you to Miss Tasha from Happy Feet Fitness who generously donates fresh bread for our families every single week. Your kindness and ongoing support make such a meaningful difference, and we’re incredibly grateful 💛

Together, we can continue creating a community built on kindness, compassion and supporting one another.

At Aurora ELC, we have a strong commitment to child safety education and as such, our preschoolers have been exploring the concepts of safe people, safe places and seeking help when needed.

Following the completion of the Office of the Children’s Guardian Child Safe Training, Miss Sami has been guiding her children through a range of age-appropriate learning experiences, including storybooks, group discussions, and reflective conversations. Together, the children have been identifying the people who help them feel safe, the places where they feel secure, and who they can talk to if they are feeling worried, unsafe, or uncomfortable.

The children expressed their understanding through drawings and creative representations, providing valuable insights into their developing awareness of personal safety, trusted relationships, and help-seeking strategies. These experiences support children to build confidence, strengthen their sense of belonging, and develop the knowledge and skills to keep themselves safe.

Our sensory and fine motor adventure continued today as the children returned to the play dough table with even more ideas, stories and discoveries to share.

We extended their play by creating a dinosaur jungle where they created dinosaur habitats, tracks, nests and jungle landscapes.

What a joy to observe rich shared attention as the children focused together on a common experience, exchanging ideas and building on one another’s thinking. The play naturally encouraged collaborative play, with the children negotiating roles, solving problems together and working towards shared goals.

The open-ended nature of the experience provided endless opportunities for language development, as the children described their creations, introduced new dinosaur vocabulary, asked questions and engaged in imaginative storytelling. Conversations flowed as the children explained their ideas, listened to their peers and expanded on each other’s narratives.

Through a simple invitation to play, the children were strengthening communication skills, social connections, creativity and confidence, all while immersed in a world of prehistoric wonder.

Sometimes the richest learning happens when little hands, big imaginations and a lump of play dough come together. 🦖🦕🌿

There’s so much more happening in a simple play dough experience than meets the eye.

As the children rolled, squeezed, pressed, cut and shaped their play dough creations, they were strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers that support important fine motor skills needed for writing, drawing and everyday self-help tasks.

Play dough is also a wonderful sensory experience, allowing children to explore different textures, pressures and movements while supporting focus, regulation and creativity.

Today’s cooking-themed play invited the children into a world of imaginative and pretend play. As they “cooked”, “baked” and “served” their creations, they were developing language and communication skills, expanding their vocabulary, negotiating roles with their friends, sharing ideas and telling stories. These meaningful interactions help children build confidence, social connections and an understanding of the world around them.

What may look like simple play is actually rich learning in action. An experience where creativity, communication, problem-solving and fine motor development come together through the joy of play 🩶
