This week, we stand together for National Reconciliation Week 2026.
At The Children’s Preschool, we believe reconciliation begins in childhood — through relationships, respect, listening, and meaningful learning experiences that help children develop an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and perspectives.
Through stories, conversations, music, art, connection to Country, and shared experiences, children are learning that everyone has a role to play in creating a more respectful and inclusive future.
We are ALL IN for reconciliation.

Who says 3–5 year olds can’t think like architects?
After researching glow worms, our children designed, planned and built their very own glow worm cave.
Think first. Draw, Build next.
At The Children’s Preschool, children don’t just play… they investigate, question, design and create.
Project-based learning. Real thinking. Real childhood.

Autumn reminds us that growth often begins with change.
So much of early childhood is learning to let go, adapt and become more independent.

“Is a chicken a bird?”
Kookaburras and rainbow lorikeets visiting our playground caught the children’s attention — and the questions began.
From there, the learning grew.
Alongside educators, children explored Australian native birds over several weeks, revisiting previous learning from kookaburras to emus. They drew what they noticed, built nests using natural and made materials, and tested their ideas by wondering how many eggs their nests could hold.
Then another question was raised:
“Is a chicken a bird?”
Well, we had to find out.
Through hands-on learning, observation and discussion, children discovered that birds share common physical features — such as beaks, wings, feathers and laying eggs.
And yes… a chicken is a bird.

Our ' Ken Done' inspired Sydney Harbour mural has been a significant part of our learning in Term 1. After several weeks of work, this project allowed children to revisit, reflect and contribute to something shared. Through the mural, children explored their interest in boats and iconic Australian buildings and landscapes, strengthening their understanding of place, including Sydney Harbour.
Family input played an important role in this project. Parent contributions helped extend the children’s learning, strengthening the connection between home and The Childrens Preschool.
Each child made observations about 'Ken Done's work, selected what they wanted to create and contributed in their own way, building a strong sense of ownership and pride in the collective work. Educators worked alongside the children, making this a collaborative experience.
Children also noticed and included important Australian symbols, such as the Australian and Aboriginal flags, helping to extend conversations about identity, belonging and Australia’s shared story.
This is how children develop a sense of belonging — by seeing themselves as part of something bigger.
We currently have limited availability. If you are looking for a preschool that values connection, belonging and meaningful connection. We welcome you to book a tour through our website.

Our Monday/Tuesday group spent Term 1 exploring boats and water transport in Australia
Through this project, children developed a strong understanding of how boats are part of life around us, including ferries, tugboats, rescue boats, and submarines.
They connected their learning to Sydney Harbour and Australia, recognising familiar places, talking about where boats go, and how they help people.
This interest later helped spark our Ken Done-inspired Sydney Harbour mural, as children used colour, conversation and representation to extend their thinking.
As the children explored different forms of water transport, families also contributed photos, stories and information from their own experiences. This helped bring the topic to life in meaningful and personal ways.
This was not just about learning names. It was about children building knowledge, making connections, and developing an understanding of the world they belong to.
