RECONCILIATION CHAPEL // Words by Ministry Captains Alethea C & Thomas M
In Chapel last week, we were privileged to hear from Saretta Fielding, an Aboriginal artist, designer and proud Wonnarua woman. She shared her personal experiences, culture and the importance of reconciliation within Australia. Through her stories and artwork, Saretta encouraged us to reflect on the history of Indigenous Australians and the ongoing journey towards healing, understanding and unity.
A special part of the Chapel was when Saretta presented an artwork that she had created specifically for and with our school community. In the centre of the artwork was a cross, symbolising our school motto, “Christ Our Light.” Surrounding the cross were symbols representing community, people, connection and learning. The artwork reflected the idea that our school community is united by faith, respect and shared understanding.
Chapel also strongly connected with this year’s Reconciliation Week theme, “All In”, reminding us that reconciliation requires everyone to be fully committed to listening, learning and showing respect for one another. Being “All In” means not standing on the sidelines, but actively working to build stronger relationships and a more united community.
Overall, the Chapel encouraged us to reflect on the role we each play in building a community grounded in compassion, inclusion and reconciliation, both within our school and in the wider Australian community.

19TH CHINESE BRIDGE - CHINESE PROFICIENCY COMPETITION // Year 9 student Henry G recently participated in the 19th Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students. Organised by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China and the Sydney HSK Centre, this prestigious language competition inspires young students to learn Chinese as a second language and enhances their understanding of Chinese language and culture.
In the initial NSW round, Henry competed against students from 16 different schools. The event consisted of three components: a General Knowledge test on China, a cultural performance and a speech on the topic ‘Fly high with Chinese – 追梦中文,不负韶华’. Thanks to his hard work, Henry won First Prize.
This past Saturday, Henry travelled to Canberra to represent NSW in the National Round, competing against champions from across the country. After another three intense rounds, Henry secured Third Prize overall.
While he missed out on the international round, this fantastic opportunity has given him invaluable experience and the chance to build wonderful new friendships.
Congratulations on an incredible achievement, Henry!

2026 SYDNEY WRITERS’ FESTIVAL // Junior and Senior School students attended the Sydney Writers’ Festival School Days program at The Concourse in Chatswood over the last fortnight.

Please enjoy these insights from our students' reflections on what was a fantastic excursion and learning opportunity.

YEAR 6 COUNTRY FAIR FUNDRAISER // The rain couldn’t keep the fun away in Bayview this morning for the Year 6 fundraiser in support of Royal Far West. The students and teachers planned a Country Fair, hosting a petting zoo on The Valley, country-inspired dance in the hall and classic fair games in classrooms for a great cause.
Service learning is a key part of the final year in Junior School. It’s wonderful to see how this Bayview cohort has embraced it with absolute joy, making today’s fundraiser a fantastic milestone.
