A simple place value lesson to tens using counters. Students pick out a handful of coloured counters from a bag to form new numbers! More variations to come, stay tuned.

Place Value ‘Words to Numbers’ requires students to associate written words with numbers, and then to build this number. This can also be played as a listening exercise where the teacher or support staff member says a number, or the student must retain it in their head, before building it.

Using MAB blocks with the Place Value Twister is a terrific way to reinforce the size element of differing values.
MAB blocks are a fantastic resource, and completely complementary with the Place Value Twister. They are particularly useful when trying to explain the concept of internal zeroes, as students see the necessity of each and every digit – even those pesky zeroes!
