Some of our Year 7 students attended the Archibald Prize exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW yesterday, where they had the pleasure of meeting Archibald Prize winner for 2026 Richard Lewer!

On Friday, 31 July, our school had the pleasure of hosting our annual visitors from Japan—the Onigiri Ambassadors from Ishinomaki City in the Miyagi Prefecture.

On Friday 31st July we were lucky to have Sydney author Erin Gough (Amelia Westlake, Into the Mouth of the Wolf and The Flywheel) speak to students in the Library about the creative writing process.

She gave us many insightful ideas that will help students with their creative writing, including writing about what you know, authentic representation of communities beyond your own and how to generate ideas. She even gave us some tidbits about her next novel and gave us a signed copy of one of her books!

Some of our talented Year 10 and 11 Visual Arts and Design students recently had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with mural artist Nico Nicoson to design and paint a new mural for our school. Inspired by the organic shapes and patterns found in nature, the mural celebrates our school's creativity, connection to the environment, and commitment to artistic expression.

Throughout the project, students worked alongside a professional artist, developing their design skills while contributing to a lasting artwork that will inspire our school community for years to come.

Don’t forget the ArtMonth 2026 Exhibition is taking place this Wednesday in the Seaview Gallery from 5-6.30pm.

This morning, proud Wiradjuri woman Lizzie-Ray, proud Yuwaalaraay woman Hawaiiki and Mr O’Neill were interviewed on ABC Radio about Koori Club at DHSVAD and our NAIDOC celebrations. Lizzie-Ray and Hawaiiki spoke beautifully and articulately about what Koori Club and NAIDOC means to them and then explained the song writing process behind their original song “For Us”, which was then played in full. Many thanks to Ms Mora and Ms Abihanna for their amazing work in providing our students with this incredible opportunity in collaboration with Dunghutti and Mandandanji man Reggie Brown, co-owner of Songlines Studios, and Lorenz Prichard from Nakama Arts and a huge congratulations to Lizzie-Ray and Hawaiiki for being such deadly ambassadors for Koori Club and the school community.

And that’s a wrap for Art Month 2026! Here’s what our Art Stream students got up to. We invite parents to join us on Wednesday, 22 July for the Art Month Exhibition in the Seaview Gallery.

In 2026, NAIDOC Week will be officially celebrated from 5th - 12th July.

Come to the Library and borrow one or more of these engaging books by Aboriginal authors (we also have many more in the collection).
