School readiness is not a checklist.

It is something children build gradually through everyday experiences, relationships and play. And it looks different for every child.

Some things that actually matter when starting school:

- Feeling safe in new environments
- Being able to communicate needs and ideas
- Managing emotions with support
- Showing curiosity and willingness to try
- Growing independence with everyday tasks like opening their lunchbox or washing their hands

None of these require a worksheet. They develop through connection, routine and the kind of rich play based learning that the early years are made for.

Welcome to winter, Senses families

There is something we really love about this time of year. Cosy layers, warm meals from our kitchen and the kind of quiet that only the cooler months bring.

June is here and we are ready for it.

This National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) we are proud to stand alongside the theme All In - a reminder that reconciliation is not a spectator sport. It calls on every one of us to show up, take action and commit wholeheartedly, not just this week, but every day.

At Senses ELC, learning about and celebrating the cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is part of how we teach, connect and grow together as a community. We are committed to walking this path with our children and families with honesty, respect and genuine care.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself. We are all in.

This week Senses is proud to be All In for National Reconciliation Week 🟡

27 May to 3 June. This year's theme says it beautifully — reconciliation is not a spectator sport. It takes all of us.

On Wednesday 3 June we'll be wearing yellow to celebrate the strength, knowledge, culture and creativity of First Nations peoples. We'd love for our families to join us.

We also have a fundraising page open now with all proceeds going directly to supporting First Nations children and families.

The first years matter and so does where they begin.

At Senses ELC, our Nursery program is a gentle and joyful introduction to early learning for children from six weeks of age. Cosy, calm spaces and one-on-one care mean your little one is always seen, supported and genuinely cared for from the very first day.

Each day is filled with sensory-rich moments - soft textures, soothing sounds, warm connections and playful exploration - all thoughtfully designed to nurture curiosity and confidence from the earliest stages of development.

Learning begins here. And every child is given the space to grow in their own way, at their own pace.

Something is growing at Senses and the children cannot stop talking about it 🌱

Our community garden is well and truly coming to life. Tiny shoots, new leaves and a lot of very excited little faces checking in each morning to see what has changed overnight.

We planted it together and we are growing it together. Watch this space.

Outdoor Classroom Day feels very at home at Senses ELC, because for us the outdoors has always been where some of the richest learning happens. 🌱

From Nursery children discovering texture and light, to toddlers climbing, balancing and chasing bubbles, to preschoolers collaborating and moving through challenges together, our outdoor spaces are alive with curiosity every single day.

Physical play builds coordination, resilience and a deep sense of the world around them. Every step, jump and stretch supports a growing mind and body.

In our Preschool program at Senses ELC, children are given the time and space to explore, wonder and create with purpose. Whether it's experimenting with colour, asking questions about how things work, or expressing ideas through art, every moment is a meaningful opportunity to learn and grow.

This is our curriculum in action - where sensory-rich experiences, creative thinking and hands-on exploration come together to build confident, capable learners who are ready for whatever comes next.

Places in our Preschool program are limited. If you would like to find out more or secure your child's place, we would love to hear from you.

This Families Week (11 to 17 May) and on International Day of Families today, we are celebrating the theme Every Family, Everywhere - and at Senses ELC, that feels very close to home.

Our community is made up of families in all their beautiful forms, cultures and experiences, and every single one of them enriches the environment our children learn and grow in. We believe that when families feel seen, valued and connected, children thrive - and building that sense of belonging is something we are deeply committed to every day.

To every family who is part of our Senses community, this week is for you.
