π«§β¨ Bubble Science in Action at Elderslie ELC! β¨π«§
There was plenty of excitement as the children participated in a bubble experience on Friday!
The children stood perfectly still and watched in amazement as the bubble solution was carefully lifted around, creating a magical bubble wall that stretched all the way above their head. π
This hands-on science experience encouraged the children to observe, predict, and explore concepts such as surface tension and cause and effect. They were fascinated by how something as simple as soap and water could create such an incredible result!
Learning through play creates meaningful opportunities for children to wonder, question, and discover the world around them. π«§π«§π«§

ππ€ School Readiness at Elderslie ELC π€π
As part of our School Readiness Program, our children are learning all about the different letters and sounds of the alphabet, building the essential foundations they will use when they transition to big school next year.
Using the Reading Eggs program on our interactive whiteboard, the children engage in fun, interactive learning experiences that support early literacy development. Through games, songs, activities, and letter recognition challenges, they are developing important skills such as phonics awareness, letter identification, listening skills, and early reading confidence.
The interactive whiteboard encourages active participation, collaboration, and engagement, making learning both exciting and meaningful for our young learners.
We love watching our future school students grow in confidence as they explore the wonderful world of literacy! ππ

π¬π Walking Water Science Experiment ππ¬
For School Readiness our children became little scientists as they explored a fascinating experiment called Walking Water!
Miss Taylah set up cups filled with red, blue, and yellow coloured water, with empty cups placed in between. Using folded paper towels to connect the cups, the children made predictions about what they thought would happen and eagerly observed the results.
The children were amazed as they watched the coloured water slowly "walk" up the paper towels and into the empty cups. Even more exciting was seeing the colours mix together to create new colours -purple, green, and orange! π¨β¨
Through this hands-on experience, the children explored important scientific concepts including absorption, capillary action, colour mixing, observation, prediction, and cause and effect. Activities like these encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and early inquiry skills that help prepare our children for their transition to school.
What a wonderful day of discovery and learning! ππ¬π

Today at Elderslie ELC, our children and educators proudly wore their favourite beanies to show their support for Brain Cancer Awareness Day. π§’
Throughout the day the children also enjoyed decorating their very own beanies through a creative craft experience.
Through conversations, creativity, and community spirit, we came together to raise awareness and show support for individuals and families affected by brain cancer.
We are proud of our children for embracing the opportunity to learn about kindness, compassion, and helping others.π

πͺβ¨ Mini Jatz Freckles Fun! β¨πͺ
Our Kangaroos (3-4) had a wonderful time during our Mini Masterchef cooking class where they made Mini Jatz Freckles! π©βπ³π¨βπ³
The children eagerly explored ingredients, practised their fine motor skills, and followed simple cooking steps to create their very own tasty treats. Cooking experiences like these help build confidence, encourage independence, and introduce early mathematical concepts through measuring and counting.
Most importantly, there were plenty of smiles, laughter, and proud faces as everyone enjoyed the delicious results of their hard work! π

π¦HATCHING CHICKSπ£
Weβre thrilled to announce that we welcomed some very special little visitors to our centre on Monday 15th June, chicken and duck eggs! π₯π¦
As part of our commitment to providing hands-on, meaningful learning experiences, we will be participating in a chick hatching program. This exciting activity gives the children a chance to witness the life cycle of a chicken - from egg to chick/ duckling - right here in our own learning environment.
π± Why Are We Doing This?
The chick hatching program provides many opportunities for the children to:
- Explore biological science and learn about animal lifecycles
- Develop empathy and responsibility through caring for living things
- Engage in sensory, creative, and language-based activities inspired by the chicks
- Build on their natural curiosity about the world around them
This experience aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), particularly in the areas of:
- Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners
- Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators
π£ What to Expect:
The program runs for 2 weeks.
Children will observe the eggs in an incubator and watch them hatch into chicks/ ducklings.
After hatching, the chicks and ducklings will stay with us in a brooder box for several days
Children will help care for the chicks under supervision
These are located in our foyer for all of you to see and guess what we have now had THREE chickens hatch already!!
At the end of the program, the chicks/ ducklings will be safely returned to the provider or rehomed ethically. If youβre interested in adopting a chick/ duckling, please let us know weβll provide care instructions and contact details.

ππ World Environment Day at Elderslie ELC ππ
Today, our little learners came together to celebrate World Environment Day through fun, hands-on activities that helped us learn how to care for our planet.
We enjoyed an environmental walk, exploring nature and noticing the beauty around us πΏ
Our children got creative with arts and crafts using recycled materials β»οΈ, and expressed their ideas by painting our world in bright, meaningful colours π¨π
We also had thoughtful group discussions about simple ways we can help protect the environment, from reducing waste to reusing and recycling every day π¬π±
It was wonderful to see everyone using our compost bin and proudly wearing green to show their support for a healthier planet π
At Elderslie ELC, we are nurturing caring, responsible learners who understand the importance of looking after our Earth-today and every day.
