My name is Frances Forshlager based in the Southern Highlands NSW Australia where I’m an educator in Early Childhood and open my studio to community. Frances Forshlager works in the Early Childhood as an educator who is passionate and committed to her role within the sector. Frances sees every child as a citizen of many communities, which is reflected through her daily practice, pedagogical documentation and long term project work. Her professional outlook changed after attending a study tour to the Reggio Emilia in 2016, which allowed Frances to go deeper into thinking, research, investigation and understanding of how the child’s voice is not limited to dialogue. This resulted in Frances reflecting more on the aesthetics, materials and process, and the importance of time. A strong advocate for raising awareness of mental heath within our diverse society, Frances' work has highlighted the importance of acknowledgement, acceptance and support within communities. Her previous work at Wee Care Kindergarten, and present role within Gumnut Gardens in Sydney, has allowed Frances to share mental health conversations with children, and encourage families to reach out to citizens and organisations in a positive way. The project ’The Blue RU OK Tree’ was published in REAIE Challenge Journal, an presented as a case study for Kelly Goodsir in Pedagogy+. An important part of her present role is the Bush Kindy program which demonstrates the correspondence between children, nature and art. Frances invites children to connect to the environment through their senses or emotions, which is then expressed through mediums such as charcoal, clay, painting. The project ‘Eco Warrior’ captured the children thoughts about sustainability and time in the park through mark making and clay. Frances’ other passion is to share her work and creativity with like minded people within Australia and around the world. Her social platform ‘EducatorsOnSite’ is one example of how to inspire others, and be inspired by others.
