Today, Liv’s PT session focused on strength and core stability - important physical foundations that support children’s participation and independence as they prepare for school.

Through purposeful movement activities, the children worked on developing:

• Core and postural strength to support a stable seated position at the table
• Whole-body strength to improve physical endurance and stamina
• Balance and body control to support safe and confident movement
• Strength and stability through the shoulders and upper body, which contribute to effective fine-motor performance
• The ability to maintain a position and sustain effort during classroom activities

These foundational physical skills have an important role in school readiness. Children need the strength and postural stability to sit, attend, use classroom tools, move safely around their environment and participate in learning activities for increasing periods of time.

Our PT sessions are designed to build these skills through age-appropriate, engaging activities, allowing children to develop strength, confidence and body awareness while they play and learn.

At Tightrope, we look beyond the individual skill and consider how each area of development contributes to a child’s overall readiness to learn, participate and become more independent at school. 🌿💙

Thank you, Liv, for another purposeful and engaging PT session!

Today our construction site came to life through imaginative play, role play and some truly incredible language!

The children took on the roles of builders and construction workers as they worked together to plan, problem-solve and create. From discussing what needed to be built and where each piece should go, to negotiating roles and giving one another instructions, the language and collaboration throughout the experience was next level amazing! 🙌

Pretend play provides such a wonderful opportunity for children to develop their communication skills, vocabulary, social confidence, problem-solving and ability to work collaboratively - all while being completely immersed in meaningful and engaging play.

Watching their imaginations take over and seeing the construction site evolve through their own ideas was definitely a highlight of our day! 🏗️🧱💛

Today, during construction week, our children explored skyscrapers with paper shapes, using different shapes to design and construct their own unique buildings.

Activities like this may look like simple play, but they provide so many meaningful learning opportunities. As children select, position and combine shapes, they are developing spatial awareness, problem-solving skills, creativity and early mathematical understanding. They are also exploring important concepts such as shape, size, position and design.

The hands-on nature of the activity also supports fine motor development and hand-eye coordination, while giving children the opportunity to plan, make decisions and bring their own ideas to life.

Most importantly, activities like this encourage children to become confident thinkers and creators - learning that there can be many different ways to solve a problem and create something wonderful! 🏙️✨

Learning through play, creativity and meaningful experiences - the Tightrope way!

✂️ Elly’s Monday OT session was a wonderful success! 🎨

This week, the children focused on cutting, gluing and craft activities, while having lots of fun creating and exploring.

These activities are about so much more than making something beautiful to take home! They provide wonderful opportunities to develop important skills including hand strength, fine motor control, bilateral coordination, hand-eye coordination and scissor skills.

The children also practised following instructions, planning their work, using materials with purpose and developing their confidence and independence along the way.

Through fun, hands-on activities like craft, the children are continuing to build the important foundations they will need as they prepare for the next stage of their learning journey. 💛

Another fantastic OT session with Elly! 🌟

Liv had another fantastic PT session with our children today, with a focus on ball skills and coordination! 🟢🟡

Through a range of fun ball games, the children were introduced to skills that will help prepare them for future school sport and athletics carnivals. They practised throwing, catching, aiming and controlling the ball, while also developing their coordination and confidence.

Just as importantly, the children were learning valuable social skills along the way, including taking turns, listening to instructions, following game rules and waiting patiently for their turn.

It has been wonderful to see these littlies becoming increasingly confident and comfortable participating in group games. Building these skills now helps them feel more prepared, capable and ready to join in when those exciting school sporting opportunities come along! 💚🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️⚽

Pretend play is so much more than “just playing” - it is an important part of early childhood development! Through imaginative play, children explore the world around them, make sense of their experiences and develo ial skills in a fun and meaningful way. 🌿

Whether they are operating machinery, creating a worksite, exploring the garden or taking on different roles, children are building their creativity, communication, problem-solving and social skills. Pretend play also encourages children to negotiate, share ideas, cooperate with others and use their imagination to create their own stories and scenarios.

Most importantly, it gives children the freedom to explore, experiment and learn through play - developing confidence and independence along the way. 💛

At Tightrope Learning, we know that some of the most valuable learning happens when children are given the time, space and opportunity to simply play, imagine and discover. 🌱✨

As part of our Spring Week, the children explored the magic of rainbows through a guided drawing experience. Before beginning, I encouraged them to share everything they already knew about rainbows - including their shape, colours and when we might see them. It was wonderful to hear their ideas and build upon their existing knowledge.

After listening to and watching just one demonstration, the children were incredibly engaged and focused as they followed the instructions to create their own beautiful rainbow drawings. 🌈

Activities like this are a wonderful way to support listening and attention, following instructions, visual-motor skills, pencil control, colour recognition and confidence, while also encouraging children to become active participants in their own learning.

The results were absolutely beautiful, and I was so proud of how engaged and capable our little learners were! 💛🌈🌸

Another fantastic OT session with Elly this week, with our focus on Drawing & Colouring Skills! 🖍️💛

What looks like a simple drawing activity is actually helping our little learners develop so many important skills for school - pencil control, hand strength, fine motor coordination, visual motor skills, concentration and confidence. ✏️👐

The children had so much fun creating, experimenting and expressing themselves while building the foundations they’ll need for those everyday classroom tasks.

This is exactly what we love about OT at Tightrope - learning through play, purposeful activities and lots of fun! 🌈

Our OT sessions work hand in hand with our school readiness program, giving children extra opportunities to strengthen the skills they need to feel confident, capable and ready for Kindergarten.

💛 It’s not too late to join us! Come and be part of the fun and give your child the best possible start.

Another fantastic PT session with Olivia last Friday! 💪🏼✨

Our focus was Balance & Coordination - two incredibly important foundations for little bodies as they grow, move and prepare for the demands of big school.

Through fun, movement-based activities, the children were busy strengthening their bodies, practising control, developing their spatial awareness and learning how to coordinate different movements together - all while having an absolute ball! 🥰

And that’s what we love about our OT & PT sessions at Tightrope… the children are learning, developing and building confidence without it ever feeling like “work”. ❤️

Olivia’s sessions complement our school readiness program beautifully, helping us support the whole child and give each little learner the strongest possible foundations for Kindergarten and beyond.

🌈 It’s not too late to join us!

Come and be part of the fun and give your child the opportunity to build skills, confidence and independence through purposeful play. 💛

Construction play is so much more than simply connecting pieces together. It provides children with rich opportunities to develop problem-solving, creativity, fine motor skills, spatial awareness and early mathematical thinking - all while having fun and working alongside their peers.

As the children plan, build, pull apart and try again, they are learning to:
✨ Think critically and problem-solve
✨ Develop hand strength, coordination and dexterity
✨ Explore balance, shape, size and spatial relationships
✨ Follow plans and sequences
✨ Use imagination and creativity
✨ Persevere when something doesn’t go to plan
✨ Communicate, collaborate and share ideas with others

Today we took our construction play outside, adding the beauty of the natural environment to the experience. 🌿☀️ There is something so special about learning outdoors - the fresh air, natural light and open surroundings create a beautiful space for children to explore, create and engage.

At Tightrope Learning, we believe meaningful learning happens when children are given the time, space and freedom to build, experiment, problem-solve and discover for themselves. 💚
