Learning Experience: Magnetic Letter Matching
Today, the preschool children engaged in a literacy experience using magnetic letters and whiteboards. Educator Sujana wrote a selection of letters on the whiteboard and encouraged the children to find the matching magnetic letters and place them alongside the written letters.
The children showed enthusiasm as they searched for the correct letters, carefully comparing the shapes and identifying each one before placing it on the board. Educator Sujana provided encouragement, asked questions about the letters and their sounds, and supported the children to recognise and name both uppercase and lowercase letters where appropriate.
This hands-on learning experience promoted early literacy skills, including letter recognition, visual discrimination, matching, and alphabet knowledge. It also encouraged problem-solving, concentration, fine motor development, and hand-eye coordination as children manipulated the magnetic letters and positioned them accurately on the whiteboard.
The children remained engaged throughout the activity, demonstrating growing confidence in recognising familiar letters and enjoying the opportunity to participate in a fun, interactive learning experience with their peers.

Today, the children participated in a rainforest-inspired leaf printing experience using a variety of leaves, paint, and natural materials to create unique artworks. As they applied paint to the leaves and carefully pressed them onto paper, they explored the different textures, patterns, and shapes each leaf produced, making observations and comparing their discoveries.
Throughout the experience, the children demonstrated creativity, curiosity, and imagination while developing their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and concentration. They experimented with different colours, leaf sizes, and printing techniques, building confidence in making choices and expressing their own ideas through art.
This hands-on experience also supported children's understanding of the natural environment by encouraging them to closely observe the features of leaves and appreciate the diversity found in nature. Through creative exploration, the children strengthened their problem-solving skills, sensory awareness, and self-expression while developing a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the rainforest and the world around them.

Today, the preschool children participated in a sand letter tracing experience designed to support early literacy skills and school readiness. Children were encouraged to focus on a letter of their choice and used paintbrushes to trace and draw the letter in trays filled with sand. The sensory nature of the activity provided an engaging and hands-on way for children to explore letter formation and recognition.
Throughout the experience, children demonstrated interest and concentration as they carefully used the paintbrushes to create the letters. Many children confidently identified letters from their names or letters that were meaningful to them, showing developing knowledge of the alphabet. As they traced and repeated the letter shapes, children strengthened their understanding of letter formation while practising pre-writing skills.
The activity supported the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and pencil control through the controlled movements required to draw in the sand. Children also developed persistence and confidence as they practised forming letters and corrected their work independently when needed. The tactile experience of feeling the sand and seeing the marks appear encouraged sensory learning and helped reinforce letter recognition.
Children engaged in conversations with educators and peers about the letters they had chosen, promoting language development and early literacy skills. The experience encouraged children to make connections between spoken and written language, an important foundation for future reading and writing success.
