you know when this stopped being a thing in my classroom?

when I started using a spinner to choose the days maths warm up. Suddenly all those kids who loved walking aimlessly around the room were ready with their hand up to spin the spinner.

but the spinner is only the beginning, because you also need engaging number activities too!

If you want your kids to know all their times tables fact by the end of the year, this is how you need to start each day in Term 4👇🏼

9:00am - students sorting
9:02am - students practising
9:05am - students sprinting
9:08am - students tracking
By 9:10am, they’re done, and it’s straight on to the rest of the maths lesson.

Going from kids rolling their eyes to kids running to the floor at the start of every maths lesson is honestly the best feeling.

And all it took was changing the first 5 minutes of my maths block.

I now use an interactive spinner to choose the warm up, paired with low floor, high ceiling tasks. Now every kid is excited for the lesson, and every kid can participate.

(p.s. low floor, high ceiling tasks have a super low barrier to entry, but heaps of possibilities for your high end kids.)
